A Major Drawback to Coaches Scouting
#1
So we know that the college football season is during the NFL season and it's got to be hard to scout for them...thus they rely on workouts.

But, the major drawback is with them so heavily involved in the scouting process they are more apt to play the players they were responsible for drafting. Even when a player underperforms they will be likely to keep them on the field to prove they were right about the pick. It robs them of the objectivity.

Look at guys like Bodine who can't lose their job. Look at not drafting or signing anyone to compete with Ced. We know that PA wanted him.

Look how Maualuga started for years.

Over and over you see underperforming players keep a starting job.

On the other extreme, you see a guy like Ross not getting playing time. Possibly because the Bengals didn't want him. Ross totally looks like a Mike Brown flashy pick.
