AJ Green Visited a Foot Specialist Monday
#21
I thought you guys were rolling with the "AJ has given up on the Bengals" story.

So maybe hasn't 'given up on the Bengals' and really is just injured AF.

I still believe AJ has high character, and wouldn't miss games if his injury wasn't holding him back.

This is starting to look like an "Andrew Luck" situation.

I think Green my be finished. I am not doctor, and I don't know the details. But when player goes two years without being able to make it through one single practice there are some serious issues.

WTF

He can look amazing, albeit without defenders, but he (AJ) can feel that something isn't right. The issue though that is sometimes hard for athletes to deal with is that new feeling that something isn't right is now the new normal of a beat up body. As Fred alluded to that was kind of what Luck struggled with coming back from injury.

Meh I know very little about medical side of it all. Hopefully we will get some more information about Green's situation on media day. That's what Wedensdays?

Someone still arguing that he would.

Antonio Bryant passed his Bengals’ physical then never played a down.

Drew Brees didn’t pass his Dolphins’ physical, but passed his Saints’ physical in the same month. Then goes on to have a Hall of Fame career.

How could Brees pass and fail a physical for the same medical condition during the same month?

Green said he would like to play, but based on the advice of his specialist he could not do what he likes.

The toe and ankle injuries are completely unrelated and one didn’t contribute to the other. The ankle injury is related to the mechanism of injury meaning almost anyone who lands with the foot and ankle positioned the way AJ’s was will sustain the same type of injury. Piss poor timing and bad luck really.

AJ has now had multiple lower extremity issues in the last couple years and it's starting to look like his career will be heading towards an unfortunate end. Even if they can get this ankle fixes there are usually compensation injuries that come along with this stuff that result in other injuries.

In one way, I am glad it puts to rest the narrative that this was all a power play by AJ. As it was pointed out, this doesn't help his FA outlook at all. On another I am happy the front office slow played the negotiations as they waited to see how he recovered as this could have been a catastrophic long term contract for the team. In the end though I'd like to reiterate, there is no way they could have traded him as he WOULD NOT HAVE PASSES A PHYSICAL.

If the team did sign him earlier I'm sure the Bengals would have a clause in the contract with an injury settlement that would make basically wipe out a cap hit.

Love AJ, but if I'm the Bengals I'm either tagging him or letting him walk. He's basically been hurt for 1.5 years straight. I don't want this team paying him a huge contract if he hasn't been able to stay on the field. It could really hurt us.
Everything in this post is my fault.

If you were a REAL doctor you would know that both the toe bone and the ankle bone are connected to the foot bone.

So there is a good chance they are related.

That's not how contracts work. Literally the reason players sign contracts that are longer term is to protect them in case of injury.

Because an NFL physical is based on the doctor giving them. That said what is involved in an NFL physical today and 10 years ago are very much different.

Green is done. I can see an early retirement like his idol Calvin.

Isn't his idol Fitzgerald who is still playing?

Just from the idea he stayed with the same club his whole career.

Him and Calvin Johnson are aces.

Franchise tag is like $18 million for 1 year.

I doubt any team would give him a 2 year deal for $18 million.

I'm kind of surprised by how many posts I'm seeing where people say we should franchise him.

The toe bone's connected to the foot bone,
The foot bone's connected to the ankle bone,
The ankle bone's connected to the leg bone,

Right.

Deuce Lutui failed his Bengals’ physical on a Friday and passed his Cardinals’ physical two days later. Because their is no uniform standard in the NFL. There are at least 32 different standards that change all the time. That’s why Farve both failed and passed his physical with the same team for the same medical condition. That’s why you can’t claim Green can’t pass a physical. Especially with all we don’t know about this injury. If he is healthy enough to run cones there is probably at least one team who would say, “Screw it, he’s healthy enough to take a chance.”

What’s different?

Because how you evaluate a shoulder or a knee or an ankle are pretty much the same.

That’s because most here know the type of WR the Bengals brain trust will sign in free agency. If they’re lucky they’ll sign a LaFell instead of a Bryant. If it’s a LB, it will be a Preston Brown or Karlos Dansby or AJ Hawk signing that sounds good in March but looks like shit in November. And the Bengals have enough immediate draft needs already they can’t be adding more needs to the list. The first pick is most likely Joe Burrow as it stands right now. The second pick needs to be an offensive lineman because the QB can’t throw to a WR while flat on his back. Which means maybe they get a WR in the 3rd and a LB in the 4th at best.
