This could have been much worse than what it was. I have seen the body cam footage that was released and they were damn near textbook in their actions.

100%.

They did it right and we should all be thankful for that.

All due to "Bad parenting"?  All due to "mental illness"?  All due to "not praying enough"/"not being enough of a Christian country"?

Give me a break.  We have a problem but it makes people a lot of money so it will never ever change.

Of course.  Murdoch starts there.  Then someone on FOX repeats that it "has been reported".

Do you know what was in the "manifesto"?  Oh, wait...you don't.

It's easier for conservatives to just stay on the trans-train than deal with the issue of gun violence in this country.

No but some are saying there is no such thing as gun violence.

I have no answer to gun violence that somebody here hasn't already said. I'm not sure why you're acting like this is a new subject. I felt like covering a different perspective of the story. That's all.

Of course you are. Of course you do.

Quote:I guess we'll have to wait for a generation in Florida, for example, and see if the "freedom" that DeSantis is giving parents to keep their kids for seeing anything they don't want to will make for less gun violence and less mental illness.

I'm a parent.  We did what we thought was best for both our daughter and son.  Are they perfect?  Nah.  No one is.  Do they have their own issues?  Sure.  We all do.  But be parented them to seek help and to not want to kill people.

Maybe she was raised the same...we don't know.  But because she is one of four non-cis mass shooters in the last 20+ years I guess that is the point the right will grab on to in order to NOT talk about more children being killed in school.

You can talk about children being killed all you want. You can also talk about trans people and how they might effect the way we look at news stories like this and how we view/analyze the differences between men and women when it comes to crimes committed whether it be mass shootings, gang violence, drug use etc.....

As I stated earlier, you pointed out you were shocked it was a woman. Obviously that mattered to you.

Don't try to act like the confusion around the gender of the shooter had nothing to do with the story, because it absolutely did. CNN literally changed their headline 3 different times from "28 year old woman", to "28 year old woman who is transgender" to "28 year old person".

There have been over 130 mass shooters in 2023 already alone. The US had 647 mass shootings in 2022.

That's actually 776 were the shooter was ... a male.

And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Did Tucker Carlson's tirade about trans people buying guns come right before this incident? Lord knows nothing gets the restrictions going like seeing someone from an out group act with the same latitude as a regular ol' white dude.

Think past the word Dino. My point wasn't that you actually meant you were "shocked". My point is what you actually said doesn't matter. It's the fact that you even bothered to point out that it was a woman and drawing attention to the gender part of the story.

You didn't say shocked, so yes I was wrong about that. But that wasn't even the point. Whether you said odd or shocked doesn't change the fact that it mattered enough for you to point it out. That's why I said "Semantics". Not because you meant something else, but because what you meant is irrelevant to the point.

It's literally the very first thing you even mention about the story. Not the dead kids you care so much about.

I do really get a kick out of people who a) KNOW what *I* meant and b) can't admit they were wrong.

It was odd that the shooter was a female because over 99% of these shooters are male.  Then I proceeded to list all the other excuses made for these shootings and how they weren't valid in this case.  You used it to make a point(?) about how to identify her as a he or a she which didn't matter at all.

Just take the L.  It's okay to admit you were wrong.

So, the gender identity of the shooter is an important thing, but not for some of the fear mongering reasons we are seeing in right wing media and on this board. It has been brought up that most of these shooters are men. One of the areas of study around trans individuals is the way their brain functions and whether they have more in common with their biological sex or with their gender identity. It's an interesting research area and something like this could play a role in that discussion.

One of the other reasons this could be an issue goes down to motive. The likelihood that this was a hate crime against Christians is damn near zero. What has a high potential, though, given the mental health situation that seems to have some support to it, is that there may have been some sort of perceived trauma from this individual's time at the school related to their gender identity. Of course, any discussion of motive is purely speculative at this point and we should ensure that we keep that in mind. Not enough information has been made public regarding the motive in order for us to have a good understanding.
