Bengals DB's Apple and Flowers Could Be Re-Signed
#1
A week after Free Agency started, they are still there to resign. Sites I saw said the open market price may be around 11 million each, or around 22 million to keep both. Depends how much Coach Lou wants them back on Defense. I don't think Bengals want to lose Bell, Bates, Apple and Flowers from his Super Bowl type Defense all at once. I look for Bengals to resign a lot more Bengals players still unsigned, some not that expensive to resign. I am interested to see how many DB's Bengals are willing to lose, and if so, how do they replace them.

Not sure what “sites” you’re looking at, but neither one of those guys is getting anywhere close to that much.

We have had talks with Apple. Unsure on Flowers.

No way either of those guys is getting close to $11 mil. But both want more than vet min, and will likely get it. If we are gonna do a Jonah deal, that might be freezing things for the FAs that are not vet min types. Ford, Thomas, T. Williams, Taylor, Scharping, etc., the vet min types, you can go ahead & ink those guys regardless. But wemight want to wait to see what our space looks like before we decide on guys who will make more (Apple, Moreau, DE vet, vet CB, etc).

Stop going to whatever site told you Flowers or Apple was worth 11M. Maybe over a 4 year contract or something, but I wouldn't be interested in signing either for that long term either.

Yeah, no way Apple and Flowers get near that much lol

Good point on maybe they are working on a Jonah trade right now, hence no news.

spotrac.com   NFL 2023 Free Agent Tracker Cincinnati Bengals

It does give an up to date list of Bengal players gone, Players added to Bengals, and Bengal players still unsigned.

Those unsigned are CB- Apple, Flowers, Lammons, LB-Johnston, QB-Allen, TE-Sample, Wilcox, WR-Taylor, LS-Harris

With Bengals going to back to back AFC Championships and a Super Bowl, I think they might keep some of these players. Not all, but some.

On Apple and Flowers it had a click Market Value and for each it was around 11 million.  Since nobody grabbed them week one of free agency, it could be Bengals resign them for less than that.

It would be hard to lose Bell, Bates, Apple and Flowers.  That is losing a lot of DB's.  Of course Bengals did add a DB in Scott, but more around 4 million.

I do agree, 11 million each sounded too much to me also.

I repeat, I do look for Bengals to resign some more of their own players. Since Bengals have been winning, this is not a blow it all up and start over. I look for some Bengals players to be resigned and stay right here off this list. Bengals have already resigned a lot of Bengals back who were in free agency a week ago.

The site he was referring to was Spotrac. And that's what they have their values at PER YEAR. He's just going by what he saw.

I imagine Flowers has a deal in place with the Bengals and is just seeing if there's something better on the open market.

Some of the beat writers have said that Apple is polarizing among the coaches and FO. I feel like Duke is a fan since the rumors are he'll be back.

I expect both to be back and would welcome it. Apple is our kind of A-hole and Flowers is that long nickle Corner we like to cover TE's.

Neither should cost a lot unlike what spotrack says. Flowers is also a good ST'er so Simmons should want him back too.

If Flowers and Apple expected what Spotrac projected they've been sabotaged. No wonder they're still available this late in FA. I hope they have been lowering their price as time goes on (if they want to play).

Of course, if they don't get signed they could turn into a mid-season replacement for us or some other team. They still won't get make the sort of money Spotrac is talking though.

I'd take one of them at 2-3 million per. Maybe another team will pay 4-7. Then again, maybe not.

Apple won't get paid much by anyone else pretty damn sure with his mouth lol

He fits here for cheap. I wouldn't be AS surprised if Flowers was able to get a contract somewhere else especially for his TE and ST's play.

But as a backup. Still think both should be back.

Apple has given this team 30 (mostly) quality starts in the past two seasons.  A starter quality CB with 7 years of experience isn't signing for $2-3M/per.  Now I don't agree at all with what Sportrac has Apple and Flowers projected at, but I believe the actual value to be somewhere in between.

You think Apple can go somewhere else and be welcomed for that kind of dough?

I just think we like him and he is our kind of A-hole and nobody else's. Most people outside of our org hate the dude.

This is true.  Like you said, the guy is an ass, but he's our ass, and he delivers more than he blunders.  I would think that 1yr/$8M or 2 yrs/$15M is fair compensation for his production and experience level.  On Flowers, I think that he would value at a little less, but who knows?

Yeah, if anything, we should get a deal for Apple just because he shouldn't have any offers from anyone else IMO.

Flowers is backup specialist and ST'er and that is what he should be paid like.

Also think that is why we haven't finalized anything with these guys yet, especially Apple.

He should be back and be a valuable backup in case Chido isn't ready or CTB gets hurt. I think CTB earned himself a starting spot on
the outside after what he did in the Playoffs. Dude is pretty damn good and plays with fire, love CTB and he should just get better and
better with more snaps.

No disagreement there, but do want to point out that Flowers is a good and experienced backup with pervious experience as a starter.  He's one of those that can come off the bench and play with not much dropoff from the starter, and he played 2/3 of all STs snaps.  I have a feeling that Darrin Simmons is quietly lobbying for Tre Flowers to be re-signed. But who know's?  We found Flowers, if they can't reach a deal they will just find someone else to plug into that spot.

Agree on Apple, was thinking a 2 year $13 million deal, but that is probably me just wishing.

Yet in no way do I give him 10 or 11 million as suggested if Im the Bengals. Think Flowers for a little less as well.

Flowers is good depth, no question. Just what you want behind your main guys. He is versatile too and can play Slot in case Hilton
needs a breather or is a size mismatch playing much bigger TE's. Also think Simmons is really banging the table for bringing him back.

Expect Flowers to be signed first and we will wait until Apple's worth lowers without getting offers cause he is an ass lol

Just wait on Apple and his price will go down. Highly doubt a team signs him for that amount, dude is hated big time across the NFL.

We are only team that likes him.
