Bengals Scoring
#1
There were a couple of posts in the Ravens game thread about our lack of scoring in the second half. I went through each game and totaled the scoring by quarter. While looking at the numbers, it seemed to be different early in the year compared to the end.

For the first eight games, our scoring by quarter was relatively balanced.

Q1 - 37, Q2 - 47, Q3 - 43, Q4 - 40

That changed dramatically in the last eight games.

Q1 - 60, Q2 - 47, Q3 - 26, Q4 - 25

And the weird thing is that was when the D started playing better.

Maybe I'll do the same for our opponents after I get back from the grocery. Could be interesting.

Once defense tightened up the offence turned very conservative in second halves. Real change in tempo and play calling

Why?  What's gonna happen at the grocery?

Here are the season numbers for us and our opponents by quarter.

Bengals Q1 - 97, Q2 - 94, Q3 - 69, Q4 - 65, Total - 325
Opponents - Q1 - 71, Q2 - 81, Q3 - 69, Q4 - 94, Total - 315

First 8 games. Record 3-4-1

Bengals Q1 - 37, Q2 - 47, Q3 - 43, Q4 - 40, Total - 167
Opponents Q1 - 41, Q2 - 59, Q3 - 43, Q4 - 46, Total - 189

Last eight games. Record 3-5

Bengals. Q1 - 60, Q2 - 47, Q3 - 26, Q4 - 25, Total - 158
Opponents - Q1 - 30, Q2 - 22, Q3 - 26, Q4 - 48, Total - 126

It's not a typo that the 3rd quarter number match. We scored and gave up the same number of points. We also outscored our opponents for the season 325-315. I would have never thought that, though we did lose five games by 5 or fewer points.

Looks like the carbon copy of Bengals scoring during the Lewis Playoff experience.  Can't make second half adjustments.  Get thumped in the second half.
Through 2023

Mike Brown’s Owner/GM record: 32 years  223-303-4  .419 winning pct.
Playoff Record:  5-9, .357 winning pct.
Zac Taylor coaching record, reg. season:  37-44-1. .455 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-2, .714 winning pct.

This is an absolute fact. And it won't be any better in 2017 because nothing significant will change. Sick

Whenever opponents say after a game "we knew what plays they're we're going to run", which happens frequently after Bengals games, it's a coaching problem.
