Best Joe Burrow throw as a Bengal?
#1
I added what I believe to be the three top candidates to the poll, but I am sure there are many others. What’s the best yet in your view?

Probably won't make most people's list...but the pass to Chase to put them in FG range after the turnover at the end of the Titans game. The reason that one will always stand out in my mind is because he got the absolute hell beat out of him all game. Yet, with the game on the line, and every reason to expect instant pressure...a perfect pass to a perfect spot.

I know it wasn't the most wow factor or dynamic pass, but given the situation and what he had endured that game...it makes it one of his most 'clutch' throws, IMO.

Couldn't agree more. That was super clutch, a throw that only true winners make.
It's easy to see the world in black and white. Grey? I don't know what to do with grey.

According to Next Gen Stats, his throw to Chase against the Falcons was statistically his most improbable completion of the season at just 19.9% completion probability.

Notably, they said it's the most improbable reception of Chase's career but not Burrow's career, so I looked up Burrow's most improbable throws in 2021 and he actually had 3 completions less probable than this one last year. Here's the video:
https://www.nfl.com/videos/next-gen-stats-joe-burrow-s-5-most-improbable-completions-2021-regular-season

The first of the three more improbable completions was the 29 yard completion to Tyler Boyd against the Niners and, while it was an outstanding play, the reason it was improbable was not because of the placement of the ball or the tightness of the window, but rather the fact that the pass rusher really should have knocked the ball out of his hand as he was in his throwing motion, so we'll put that one aside.

The second of the three was Higgins Mossing those two Baltimore Ravens for a 52 yard reception. This was also an incredible throw but I think the improbability had more to do with Higgins beating a double team than it did with Joe's placement, so I'll put that one aside too.

The most improbable completion of 2021 (and likely of Burrow's career, unless he had a true banger in his rookie season EDIT: his most improbable completion in his rookie year was to AJ Green in the Washington game, but it was not as unlikely as this one, so this is his most improbably completion in his career. It was a nice pass, but an even better catch by Green. A real toe tapper.) was the 29 yard touchdown to Tee Higgins against the Chargers. Like the reception against Baltimore, it was an outstanding throw and catch but the improbability likely has more to do with Higgins, again, Mossing a double coverage and holding on as he falls to the ground, so I'll put that one aside as well.

The two passes that don't show up on this list but I think deserve credit are the tightrope act touchdown that Chase caught against the 49ers on 4th down and the hole shot touchdown against the 49ers to Chase 8 minutes later. However, the former was more Chase being an alien than Burrow throwing a dime (it was a great throw, just not on the same level as these other passes) and the hole shot that was remarkably similar to the one against the Falcons. The only difference is the one against the Falcons was significantly tighter of a window.

So I think this throw against the Falcons was the best throw of Burrow's NFL career. And Chase agrees, for what it's worth.

I think the throw to CJ vs the Ravens where he stopped mid roll out and hit CJ deep for the TD deserves nomination.

I also think his throw to CJ to get in field goal range vs the Vikings in overtime game 1 was perfect.

Those 3 are pretty close, and were all completely amazing throws, but I voted the one to CJ up the seam. It’s just humanly impossible to make a better throw than that one was. Also, it wasn’t to a stud WR, and came in a playoff game. So I’ll give that one the edge.

I am personally a fan of this one to CJ. On the run, to his left no less, and throws a perfect ball into a window with no margin for error.

That was great, but I don’t even think it was the best TD pass in the game. There was a sideline toss to Chase (similar to the 3rd option in this poll) that was just a perfectly placed ball if I remember correctly.

If we were going play and not just throw that one would be up there, but Chase actually had to adjust and come back to make an unbelievable catch on that one. Joe’s definitely thrown a lot of more accurate TD’s.

Of the 3 shown, that TE seam route to CJ is maybe my favorite. Absolute perfect placement on the ball…so perfect that you start to question whether or not it could have been intentional.

No losers here, but the Uzomah throw. The best.

With the Boyd & Chase throws, the WRs’ contributions were just as impressive as the throws.

That CJ pass would have been caught by most folks in a game thread.

Toughest throw too - center of the field, attacking levels coverage and hit him in stride.

That’s your winner.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.

The CJ throw was the one that came to my mind when I saw Chase’s comments. Just could not have been more perfectly thrown and placed

I voted the Uzomah seam throw myself. I think everyone has given great answers here though.

Indeed, I thought the second deep TD to Chase against the 49ers last year was incredible — and that yesterday’s similar throw was a better version of the same thing (albeit in a less critical situation).

His pass to Chase for the TD against Green Bay last year, extended the play when there was nothing on and squeezed it past the defenders finger tips.

Jaw hit the floor.

That was the first one that came to my mind as well. Burrow threw the ball before Chase stopped and started going back the other way. Just great anticipation and putting the ball in the perfect spot. Obviously an amazing play by Chase as well.

Honestly, I really like the one last week that Chase dropped for what would have been his 1st TD catch. That throw was insane. Also liked the one to Boyd his rookie year where he led Boyd the opposite way he was running.
