Bob's First and Last Mock
#1
Doing something a bit different with this draft, I don't think LB is a huge need after the Preston Brown signing.

Also think we cut MJ and we already lost Smith so DE is a bigger need than most think.

Haven't had much time this year for the draft so this will be my only Mock.

DRAFT :

1. Taven Bryan DE/DT Florida - What do the Bengals love in players? Seems to be versatility so when they see a guy with the ability to play DE and DT with an extremely high ceiling they pull the trigger. Bryan is 6-4 291 with great athletic abilities to play both positions at a high level. Good jump off the snap to cause disruption inside with great burst to get to the ball carrier. Has a lack of production but his potential is high and could get us to pull the trigger.

2. James Daniels C/G Iowa - Said to be an elite athlete and technically sound for the position and excels with zone blocking and the ability to make blocks at the second level. I think James Daniels would be an excellent fit with what Pollack wants to do. Also gives us some flexibility as he can play Center or Guard.

3. Rasheem Green DE USC -  6'4 275 pound guy, seems to have a ranking thats all over the place as some have him at 1-2, 2-3, or 3. He may not fall here but if he does I think we have to double dip at Dline early. NFL draft profile says he should have went back to school because he can't handle NFL guys yet so I tend to see teams passing on him but again this is a guy that could be a killer DE for us. Had 12.5 TFL, 10 Sacks, and 4 PD's this year at USC.

3. Armani Watts S Texas A & M - Great athlete with great coverage ability and the good hands to make plays on the ball. Described as instinctive and always around the ball. 87 Tackles, 5 PD, 4 INT, and 2 FF in 2017. We need a guy that can make plays on the ball and even though he is not the ideal size he is what we need on defense.

 4. Geron Christian OT Louisville - Has experience at both Tackle spots, has the body you want at the position at 6'6 318 pounds. Didn't play in a traditional offense at Louisville so people have some questions about his technique but with Pollack coming in we can have him coach this kid up as he has everything you need to be a successful OT in the NFL.

 5. Darius Phillips CB Western Michigan  - Not the biggest CB at 5'10 190 pounds but he can step in and take over the role that Pacman had on special teams day 1. The last 3 years he has had 12 Interceptions, 4 FF, and 5 Return TDs. Similar size and skill set as Pacman so with him leaving this season we can work Phillips in early at Special Teams and see how he develops on defense.

5. Ian Thomas TE Indiana - I actually think that we are alright at TE, especially with Eifert back and I actually believe Kroft is a good player so I waited until late to pick up a TE. Thomas has the size you look for along with the athletic ability. Not a great blocker but at his size he should be able to get better. Didn't do much in college but has the potential to be a solid player behind our 2 guys.

5.Trenton Thompson DT Georgia - Decent size can get some pass rush inside and plays with good strength. We love our Georgia guys so if he falls here then I think he would get a strong look. He is rated anywhere from 4-5 so considering his injury history and a history of some DT's seeming to fall further than expected the past couple years I could see him being here.

7. Steve Ishmael WR Syracuse - I have been watching this guy for a couple years now and while everyone says he isn't the athlete you look for at the position I really like what he brings to the table. Good size at 6'2 209, goes up for jump balls, fights for the ball and can make some tough catches. Not an elite athlete but can really do alot at WR. 105 Receptions, 1347 Yards and 7 TD in 2017.

[Image: 2017-10-13-dn-supregame19jpg-a0b55da2a7fa55bc.jpg]

7. Azeem Victor LB Washington - Stop me if you have heard this before, gained too much weight, suspended early in the year, hard hitting LB that gets after the run, somewhat limited in pass coverage. NFL draft profile had a quote from a scout saying a couple years ago he would have been a second day pick but with the suspension and weight gain he wouldn't touch him. We love a redemption stories so witht he 7th round pick we could do worse than a guy that showed he can be a good player if we can get his head on right.

[Image: washington_azeem_dream_football_s878x606...13ab4e1566]

7. Wyatt Teller OG VT - Looked great in 2016 but people questioned his effort in 2017 and asked if he checked out. Round 7 so figured with these last 2 picks we would take some risk and go for a guy that people believe is clearly better than what he showed in 2017.

Like it a lot. Love Bryan, but I don't know if I would take him and roll the dice that Daniels or Price is around in the second. I can't really see any way that Daniels is there at #46

You might be right on that but there are 3 good centers in the top 48 and I believe atleast one of them will still be around at 46 and I just went with preference.

Id be shocked if the top 3 guys were all gone at 46.

Well with your Mock here Bob we got one of the top 3 Centers and we got a talented OT. I like that you changed it up a bit
and thought about End cause like Corners i don't think you can have enough pass rushers. Taven Bryan is a talent, same with
Rasheem Green. I like it even if i prefer Price and Ragnow over Daniels for our Division.

Daniels can bulk up but i still think he lacks that core strength we need here. Still will be a definate upgrade over Bodine that
is for sure. I think that Daniels will be the first Center taken, by a more pass heavy team anyway. We should take Price or
Ragnow at 46 cause i think one of them will be there. I think one of these guys fits what Pollack was talking about what he
likes in his Lineman, smart, tough and nasty. Rather than a great athletic, techinician like Daniels.

Honestly I really like this draft. I think it seems more plausible to switch Daniels and Bryan as I think Daniels/Price are both first rounders and with us picking in the top half of round 2 we could probably get Bryan there where as we might miss out on Daniels or Price.

No LB in the first 3 rounds is asking for trouble. You've been warned.

I love the mock, but I'm hoping the Bengals take Price over Daniels if given the opportunity.

I love the Watts and Phillips picks a lot.
Your last 2 are interesting as well. Would like to know what happened to them.

You may be right, I actually like any of the top 3 Centers for us and would be happy with any of them.

I also think DE is a bigger need for us than many believe. Chris Smith gone and MJ is washed up.

I like Willis and Lawson but Lawson is more of a pass rush specialist than a complete DE right now. But counting MJ we have 3 guys that are listed as DE on our roster, I think getting some young talent on the Dline is really important for this Defense.

Id be fine with either of these scenarios if we ended up with Bryan and a top 3 Center.

Saw you had a similar mock where the top 2 picks are the same just reversed, so I liked yours as well.

Also I'm shaking in my boots that LB man is gonna leave your mock to come after me.  Sarcasm

Yea if you want 2 guys that can make plays on the football you gotta look at Watts and Phillips.

I think Wyatt Teller is one of the more interesting guys to look at in the draft, the concern that he may have quit on his coaching staff is concerning but in the 7th round you gotta take a chance that you can get a guys head on straight when he has shown in the past his ability to play at a high level.

I agree with all this, it is just a bad Draft for Ends this year, i think we could survive for one more year with what we have
and if we have to bring in a couple guys to compete for MJ's spot, so be it. He was alright as a backup rotational DT last year.

Just need to restructure his contract if we are going to keep him around. Paid too much for a backup.

Rasheem Green though would be a nice grab in the 3rd.

I like Andrew Brown as well. 5 Star Recruit that didn't develop at Virginia, he had offers from many schools, but chose to stay close to home. He has a non-stop motor, but doesn't always seem to know what to do. I believe some quality coaching can get him back on the right path.
