Because he's never going to win a Championship at ND and he knows it.  Can't compete with Alabama when you're limited to mostly Catholic boys.

Well, like anything else in life it also comes down to money. 10 year contract at 95 mil + incentives. He could end up being the 2nd highest paid coach in college after Lincoln Riley now.
