Candidates for 2020 elections.
A couple new candidates:

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/04/15/politics/bill-weld-2020-trump/index.html

Quote:Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld announced Monday he is officially entering the race for president, becoming the first Republican to challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 race.

"Ours is a nation built on courage, resilience, and independence. In these times of great political strife, when both major parties are entrenched in their 'win at all cost' battles, the voices of the American people are being ignored and our nation is suffering," Weld, who had previously formed an exploratory committee, said in a statement.

"It is time for patriotic men and women across our great nation to stand and plant a flag. It is time to return to the principles of Lincoln -- equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. There is no greater cause on earth than to preserve what truly makes America great. I am ready to lead that fight."

In 2016, Weld was the vice presidential nominee on the Libertarian Party ticket with former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson. He previously served two terms as the governor of Massachusetts in the early 1990s.

Weld ran for Senate in Massachusetts in 1996 and lost against John Kerry. He later moved to New York and in 2005 unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for governor.

Weld told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead" that it would be a "political tragedy" and he would "fear for the Republic" if the country had six more years of Trump as President.

"I really think if we have six more years of the same stuff we've had out of the White House the last two years that would be a political tragedy, and I would fear for the Republic," he said.

"I would be ashamed of myself if I didn't raise my hand and run," he told Tapper.

Weld said he will not run as an Independent if he does not win the Republican nomination.

And from over the weekend Mayor Pete official announced.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/14/us/politics/pete-buttigieg-announcement.html

Quote:Pete Buttigieg, the young Midwestern mayor whose presidential bid has been an unlikely early focus of attention from Democratic voters and donors, kicked off his campaign on Sunday and proclaimed his hometown’s revival was the answer to skeptics who ask how he has the “audacity” to see himself in the White House.

At a rally inside a partly rebuilt factory, once owned by the automaker Studebaker and now being turned into glass-sheathed offices for tech and other businesses, Mr. Buttigieg said, “I ran for mayor in 2011 knowing nothing like Studebaker would ever come back, but that we would, our city would, if we had the courage to reimagine our future.”

If elected, Mr. Buttigieg, a 37-year-old Rhodes scholar and veteran of the war in Afghanistan, would represent a series of historic firsts: the youngest president ever and the first who is openly gay.

He said he was motivated to run despite his youth because of an urgency to correct the course of the Trump administration on climate change, health care and immigration. “This is one of those rare moments between whole eras in the life of our nation,” Mr. Buttigieg said, adding, “The moment we live in compels us to act.’’

He painted a picture of a hopeful future rooted in Midwestern values, contrasting his focus on a better life in 2030, 2040 and 2054 — the year he would be the same age as President Trump is today — with what he called Mr. Trump’s appeal to “resentment and nostalgia.”

And he invoked his marriage to his husband, Chasten Buttigieg, as one of the blessings of American freedom, but one that feels fragile in the current climate.

“Our marriage exists by the grace of a single vote on the U.S. Supreme Court,’’ Mr. Buttigieg told a crowd of several thousand people. “Nine men and women sat down in a room and took a vote, and they brought me the most important freedom in my life.”

Though Mr. Buttigieg is a political progressive, his main message is the claim to leadership of millennial Americans, those he says will be on “the business end” of climate change, who grew up with school shootings and who supplied most of the troops in America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pete Buttigieg was giving a speech in Iowa yesterday and discussed that it was great to be married, saying it shouldn't be up to a county clerk to decide if he could be married or not.

A man started shouting "Sodom and Gomorrah".

Pete responded to him "hello, again" with a laugh. The crowded chanted "Pete, Pete, Pete" and the man was talked to by security before being escorted out, but not dragged. No one swung at him. No one tried to fight him. Pete didn't tell people to "get him the hell out" or suggest they attack him.

He then said "The good news is, the condition of my soul is in the hands of God, but the Iowa caucuses are up to you"

Damn, it would be nice to have someone intelligent and with a moral compass in the White House.

The problem I see is all the good christians don't believe he has a "good moral compass" because he is gay.  Obviously almost anyone would be more christian and moral than the current resident of the WH but his supporters ignore every sin and immoral act because they think he supports what they do and that doesn't include those evil gays or things like abortion. Don't know what Buttgieg falls on that one yet.  I haven't checked out his stances on everything.

But I do agree that bringing thought and intelligence to the office of the President would be amazing.  Every day DJT impresses me with how dumb he really is...and I already thought he was pretty dumb before he ran for office.

Abortion.

That's pretty much the core of it.

Republicans keep swinging their bibles and promising to take away a constitutional right and they get elected and break every commandment (in general) while getting praised for being so "christian".

It used to be gay marriage and how it would "destroy the sanctity of marriage".  Then they voted in adulterers and multi time married men.  Go figure.

Quote:A group of anti-LGBT protesters followed Pete Buttigieg to another town in Iowa for a bizarre demonstration.
One man demonstrated his hatred for homosexuality by dressing up as Buttigieg and whipping another man dressed as Jesus on the cross, while a third man dressed as Satan harangued confused onlookers in front of a garage in Marshalltown.

“Beat the savior, beat him — I hate this guy,”said the man dressed as Satan. “Yes, more blood, Peter. Every vote is a lash on the back of Christ.”

Hecklers interrupted the South Bend mayor’s campaign stop Tuesday in Des Moines by shouting, “Sodom and Gomorrah,” but Buttigieg calmly brushed aside their anti-LGBT slurs.

“The good news is,” he said, “the condition of my soul is in the hands of God but the Iowa Caucuses are up to you.”

The 37-year-old Buttigieg’s campaign has been drawing more attention lately following a series of TV appearances that won him praise and new fans, and the openly gay military veteran’s sudden popularity appears to have rattled some conservative Christians.

“We had bathhouses, you have no idea the stuff we used to do,” the man dressed as Satan told onlookers, sipping from a mug of coffee. “Blood, I would drink blood in the mornings. There’s nothing like a warm cup of blood in the morning.”

Satan’s stand-in then warned that Buttigieg was “polling number one in hell.”

I believe anyone who shows up at a rally with the sole intent of heckling or worse should quickly be shown the gate. my stance on this matter is unchanged regardless of the message.

I like Pete. I supported him for DNC chair in 2017. I'm not keen on him for POTUS for a number of reasons but I'd like to see him become more of a figure in the political arena.

Yep. He makes an interesting case for it that kind of has me sold on the idea. Not on him, mind you. But I want to look at his data before really saying for sure.

If anyone is interested in the way this guy is thinking, here is an interview with him conducted by Trae Crowder (The Liberal Redneck): https://wellredpodcast.libsyn.com/112-trae-crowder-andrew-yang

I'll have to see where he really stands on positions [because the Dem primary doesn't remotely indicate what the candidate will choose when actually in the Oval Chair].

But the "gay thing" aside, and maybe policy aside, he's an ideal Conservative candidate - religious, Rhodes Scholar, worked for McKinsey, war hero, etc....

If he can rise above identity politics, then I think he'll become POTUS.  He'll have to tell a lot of lies to get the nomination, but I think he's a really solid straight-down-the-middle candidate.

Warren going after a specific population:

Quote:Warren aims to cancel $50,000 in student loan debt for every person who has a household income of below $100,000.

Obviously, I hate this idea for numerous reason, but the primary is how it is unfair to the young man/woman that was forced to immediately join the workforce.

https://hillreporter.com/in-buttigieg-attack-franklin-graham-cites-bible-verse-to-execute-gays-32247?utm_source=tuck&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=HR

Quote:Evangelist Franklin Graham didn’t take too kindly to Mayor Pete’s response and took to Facebook to perpetuate his distorted and hateful brand of Christianity.

Quote:“Mayor Buttigieg is absolutely right—His soul is in the hands of God, so is everyone’s,” Graham wrote. “He also says that he’s a Christian and wants to become the first openly gay president in America’s history. What’s wrong with that picture?”

Graham is none too pleased with Buttigieg’s brand of Christianity.

Quote:“In reality, being a Christian isn’t just a title we select or a church membership,” Graham continued. “It is a faith in God and His Word that transforms our lives to be more like the One we follow—Jesus Christ. Jesus said, ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments’ (John 14:15).”

Graham went on to cite another verse:

Quote:“The Bible makes it very clear that homosexuality is a sin. ‘If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination…’ (Leviticus 20:13). That’s what God says and that settles it for me. I stand with the Word of God. I care enough about people to tell them the truth and to warn them about the judgment to come for all sin.”

Perhaps Graham should check out the following verse from the Holy King James version:

Quote:Matt.7. [1] Judge not, that ye be not judged. [2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. [3] And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Mind you Graham thinks DJT is a very godly man...despite three marriages and multiple affairs and lying and, well...you get the idea.

But there are A LOT of people who think like him (many because they listen to him).  And that is very sad.
