Cincinnati Sells its Railroad

I don't see what can go wrong.

About 40-50 derailments a year in ohio.

We even have a bipartisan bill from our Ohio senators because of safety.

I didn't get to vote on it. I would have been a no. The city selling hundreds of miles of rail it has owned for centuries to a company that just ruined an Ohio town sounds like a bad idea.

I voted no. The idea of doing anything that Norfolk Southern wanted the city to do makes my skin crawl. I just hope this doesn't lead to a bunch of disasters like in East Palestine.

Something I haven't thought of is the current treasury rates. If we were able to get 4% for 10-20 years on that 1.62 billion. That would make me happy.

Instead of collecting the 25 million a year for leasing it out, which I guess is what was happening. We could be collecting almost 65 million just in interest of the proceeds of the sale.

I see them spending it like drunken sailors instead though.

Weird to see ~43,000 people being able to be the majority on a vote of that magnitude of money and importance.

I'm not within the city limits, just outside of it. It wasn't on my ballot. I'm not too certain why I got to vote on the zoo, but not the railroad. I guess the zoo is a Hamilton County issue and the railroad was a city one. Anyway, this wasn't explained very well to the public. It's like New York City would be selling the Statue of Liberty so they can raise money to fix potholes. I would have voted no. Our Mayor had a conflict of interest with Norfolk Southern also yet was doing commercials in support of it.

I thought it was weird there was a problem with the mayor being in a political ad for an issue that was going to be on the ballot.
But it was no problem for the governor to be in a political ad for an issue that was going to be on the ballot.
