Congratulations, Cordell Volson!

On being named to the 1st team of the All-Rookie team. Let's hope that this is just a precursor to a long and storied career as a perennial All-Pro!

Quote:CINCINNATI — NFL All-Rookie teams from around the media landscape are popping up, and Bengals guard Cordell Volson popped up on one.

Sports Info Solutions named Volson a first-team guard.

"A 4th-round pick out of North Dakota State," Nathan Cooper wrote. "Volson started every game and played every snap at guard for the Bengals this season. His 26 Total Points were 3rd among rookie guards. He finished with a 2.6% blown block rate, but only a 1.2% blown block rate on run plays, which tied him for 9th-best among guards with at least 500 snaps played."

The rookie hasn't been amazing this season, but he also hasn't been noticeable, and that's a major upgrade over the position holders from the past few seasons.

He'll soon get his first taste of NFL Playoff action a year after battling in the FCS Playoffs.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Nice. Like they said. Not a world beater, but not getting beat by the world. Solid LG for years to come. The T positions are the questions going forward.

Good thing Volson surprised everybody and stepped up when he did or the Bengals would have been in trouble.

That's pretty darn good for a kid out of FCS in the first round. Looks like some crow needs to be passed aroundLOL

Maybe we'll take a look at his college teammate:

Definitely true, solid O line drafting will also save tons of salary cap space.

Like what I read about him in the Huddle Report.

Boylheart  onsiders him  first round talent, but he might drop to the 2nd round due to short arms...

Why? Boling wasn’t even a full time starter his rookie season.

I think it is more along the lines of Boling was a quality G for several years here, whereas Volson has been bad all season. He has just been better than expected. He is damn near last in raw pressures & sacks allowed, and is in the bottom third of the league in pressure percentage & sack percentage.

I suspect Volson will be the new Zac Taylor. Certain posters are so dug in against him they will never admit we found a gem. "He is horrible"... yet he made the All Rookie 1st team. That doesn't equate.

Right, because starting 10 games on a last place team is totally the same as what Volson just did.
