Cop Shot in KC
#1
Kansas City, Kan., police officer shot; in critical condition

http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article90544392.html

Police have blocked off 18th Street north of Parallel until 24th Street in their search for suspects. One person was in custody

An officer has been shot at 22nd and Haskell in Kansas City, Kan. and by 2:45 p.m. one person was in custody and police had detained another person.

Kansas City, Kan., Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted at 2:02 p.m., “We have an officer shot at 22nd & Haskell. Start prayers, unknown condition.”

The officer was in critical condition.
The incident began about 1:33 p.m. when police received a call about an armed disturbance at Second Street and Edgerton Drive. The caller told police that several people in a car were firing shots at them, according to a statement from KCK police.
Officers arrived within minutes. At that time, three or four people bailed from the car.

An officer took one person into custody near there.
Shortly before 2 p.m., an officer attempted to stop another person. Multiple shots were fired and an officer was hit. Police were advised that an officer was down at 1:58 p.m.
The officer was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police are searching the area for others who were involved. One person is in custody.

Police have blocked off 18th Street north of Parallel until 24th Street in their search for suspects.
Police swarmed the area with dozens of officers, some with rifles. Several police were taking cover behind cars at 16th and Quindaro by 2:30 p.m. A woman at a house there came out of a home with her hands up. Several officers were kneeling down in the street with their guns drawn toward the home. It was unknown what connection the house has to the shooting.

The woman who came out walked up to an officer who was holding a ballistic shield. She stood and talked with the officers. Then she walked away from the officers about 10 feet away toward the home and appeared to be yelling to someone in the house. She told police an 8-year-old and 3-year-old in the home.

About 45 minutes later, two small children came out of the house and went to the woman. Police moved them out of the way.
Next door to the house, just to the south side of Quindaro just east of 16th Street, is a vacant lot. A dozen officers were clustered at the first house next to the lot. Officers were still crouched behind car in front of the and there were officers stationed at building to the west of the house.

About 3:08, a SWAT team approached the house behind ballistic shields. They entered the house. About 3:34 p.m. the officers left the house without anyone.

This is the second police officer shot in KCK this year. The detective, Brad Lancaster, 39, was a nine-year veteran of the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department was shot and killed May 9.
Police were beginning to gather at the hospital where the officer was taken. One officer walked out to her car in tears.

It's not good any time a cop gets shot. It happened to my cousin after 2 years on the job. I really hope this isnt another Dallas or Baton Rouge though.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

So are we going to come full-circle where every cop shooting is paraded as a deliberate assassination of police?

This just sounds to me like a couple of criminals and not any sort of ambush.

To be fair, though, every black person shot nowadays by a police officer is paraded as racially motivated even if the evidence exonerates the police officer.

Oh and don't forget waiting for that evidence to come out makes you a racist!  Ninja

Cops are shot and killed in the line of duty all the time, but no one bats an eye. Yet the moment a cop uses deadly force everyone loses their mind.

Well you know if all these cops would stop being so damn racist, and going out looking to kill black people we wouldn't have these issues. Ninja

To be fair, a white cop was killed by a black man. So yes, we need to start emphasizing the racial aspect of it.

I'm pretty happy with what Texas is doing with the Police Protection Act.

Governor Abbott’s Police Protection Act includes the following proposals:
  • Extend hate crime protections to law enforcement officers;
  • Increase criminal penalties for any crime in which the victim is a law enforcement officer, whether or not the crime qualifies as a hate crime;
  • Create a culture of respect for law enforcement by organizing a campaign to educate young Texans on the value law enforcement officers bring to their communities;

40% of 1000 = 400.  I don't think there were 400 times last year where everyone lost their minds.  Roughly 40 were unarmed and we didn't have 40 "lose our mind" moments last year.

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/12/29/461402091/number-of-police-officers-killed-by-gunfire-fell-14-percent-in-2015-study-says

Last year represented a 15% decrease in officers being killed in the line of duty. We can surmount that unfortunately and sadly that number will rise this year.

So what's the point of my post?  Is it to side with the civilians being shot?  No.  Is it to make some comparison of those civilians and those officers being shot and killed?  No.  The purpose of my post is to point out the exaggerations being made about the actual issues we have right now.  Those exaggerations provide no haven for thought on how to remedy the problems we have.  It only further exacerbates it.

One exaggeration could be that police only shoot and kill blacks, when nearly 50% of all police shootings were actually white. Almost twice the amount of blacks, but no one is out protesting on their behalf.

Whites account for over three times as much of the population as blacks.

And we've already shown that Blacks commit 2x as many of the violent crimes over their population %. Do you have a point?

Twice 16% is still way less than 50%

Plus many of these shootings have nothing to do with a violent crime.

So what is your point? You think it is okay for police to lie about shooting black people because they have a higher crime rate?

Mike M posted a "red herring" and I respoinded with a "straw man".

But you have to give me credit for making my legit argument first before I spun it into a straw man.

Thought this was as good of a place to put this as any:

Quote:The North Richland Hills Police Department has set some very jarring images and video to Disturbed’s fantastic cover of “The Sounds of Silence”. In a word, it’s breathtaking.

The NRHPD actually posted this two months ago, but it’s more relevant than ever – and not a lot of people saw it at the time.

To be honest, there may be parts you won’t be able to forget. For starters, watch for the child’s birthday balloon – attached to an overturned table. It’s tough to watch in parts, but it will be the best four minutes you’ll spend today.
