Coronavirus Information...who do you trust?
(09-04-2020, 01:01 PM)Mer Wrote: Do you think Hilary would have done better?

Yes.
Anyone who could have resisted to mock mask wearing, to claim the virus will miraculously go away, to promote unrecommended medicine, to encourage protests against corona measures, [...], would have done better. That includes Hillary as much as many other people.

Last I heard Trump now listens to someone who promotes herd immunity. Hillary would not do things like that either.

Do you think Hilary would have done better?

Because that's the way God planned it because he promised to stop mass murdering people with flooding.

As for Hillary, I doubt she would have called it the Democrat’s new hoax while ignoring the problem or pushed ineffective treatments or announce CDC recommendations in one sentence then announce she wouldn’t follow the recommendations in the next sentence.

Trump has set the bar so low, not doing any one of those three things would be an improvement.

Is this the same CDC that originally came out with the statement that wearing masks don't help prevent the spread of the virus?

BTW it's nice to see you included God in your post ( no sarcasm intended).

That's not what the CDC said. The CDC said it did not recommend masks for the general public because it wasn't spreading in the general public at the time and the masks were needed for healthcare professionals. Once the situation changed and more was learned about the virus, they updated their recommendation.

My mistake. It was the WHO that stated healthy people don't need to wear masks unless caring for a sick person.

Specifically they say that about medical masks, and they still say that. It's for the same reasons as the early CDC recommendations: saving the most effective masks for those that truly need them. If they did not believe the masks were effective, they wouldn't recommend them for at-risk people.

Too bad they didn't say something about toilet paper in those early days.  Whatever

Not just laypeople, but even among science teachers who are self styled biological MDs, too.

Yeah, strange the CDC actually changed their statement rather than just doubling-down in the face of new information.

No, it’s the CDC which in the past month changed their Covid 19 testing recommendations to reduce the number of tests performed in accordance with Trump’s wishes.

It’s also the CDC which announced states should be ready to distribute a potential Covid 19 vaccine by November 1st despite the fact that timeline is highly unlikely in order to boost Trump’s campaign.

It’s goddamn shameful what the CDC has been reduced to under the Trump administration.

Trump golfed again today.

Since Memorial Day weekend, we've had 90,000 deaths and Trump has golfed 27 times.

That's 1 trip every 4 days. 1 per 3,333 deaths.

Just another example of how F'ed up Trump's Covid task force is . . .

Quote:Last Monday, top officials on the White House coronavirus task force issued an urgent warning to governors across the country: Stop sending your COVID-infected college students home to their parents or risk another nationwide surge, just like the one that overwhelmed the South this summer.

Basically, send your healthy kids to college to get sick.  But, once they're sick, don't send them home.

They acknowledge sending the sick students home can cause a surge, but don't acknowledge that sending them to college for in person classroom instruction instead of virtually is causing a surge on campuses across the nation.

Locally, we are seeing much fewer cases of Covid compared to July and August.  The public schools opened with virtual classes, but will transition to both virtual and in person classes by the end of September.  The one school district that I know opened for traditional classes, a private Christian school, shut down in person classes because of a Covid outbreak.  Who could have seen that coming?  Certainly not the White House coronavirus task force.

Trump was no only unprepared, he deliberately cut things to help the preparation.

Do you not agree with having infected college kids quarantining in place?

She was referring to H1N1, though the government began working on it two months before swine flu was declared a pandemic and had it out by October. It was less doses than they had hoped because the method they used ended up creating less issuable vaccines than experts thought it would. By December it was readily available but the concern had mostly passed.

As usual you ignore the point to play your stupid games. The White House isn’t okay with getting parents sick, but is okay with getting students sick. If you don’t want sick parents, don’t send students to class to get sick and do virtual learning instead.

But, in general, I don’t agree with having sick college students quarantined in dorm rooms which aren’t private, sharing common spaces such as the bathrooms designed for use by multiple people at the same time, and dining at the dining hall with hundreds of other students. And asking the university to be responsible for their health while sick. It’s a stupid idea in most cases that don’t involve extensive travel arrangements.

The point is Universities made the choice whether to have in person classes or not. Everyone knew there was an increased risk of those kids getting COVID but also some medical folks think college age folks are less likely to experience any significant harm. Just because a youngster is Covid positive doesn't mean he/she is sick. You also realize that you can get those meals in the mess halls to go.

You can say it's best to have covid infected kids travel home to their elderly parents. I'll go with better to hold up in place and practice your preventives measures. But you're the medical expert.
