So... how many weeks until the next mass shooting.

Anybody have the Vegas odds?

Since this is not preventable, I might as well make some money off of it. It is, after all, the American way.

Seven. Right around Christmas sounds about right.

Hope nobody's number comes up.

If praying works, does that mean there are more people praying for shootings to happen, than against?

I suppose that would depend upon where you are invested. The gun manufacturers and dealers make a killing (no pun intended) after these sorts of events. So, if you have stock there...

I can't see it taking less than two weeks. I mean, a dude has to read up on how this attack went. Then they have to plan and stock up on ammo. Plus, bump-stocks just came back on the market today. So, he will want to make sure to pick up one of those for maximum effect.

Wait. Preying for ones own personal benefit is what god had in mind?

Fascinating. No wonder they thank him after a big win.

I suspect all predators prey for their own personal benefit.

As far as Christians praying for their own benefit, the theology is that that shouldn't be the only reason a person prays. But also, "there is no harm in asking".

Define "mass shooting".

Are we talking about the ones that make the news because a dozen people are killed? Or are we talking about the situations where someone shoots 5 people who all live so it doesn't really make a big story outside of local news?

If it's the big one, it probably won't happen for several months (, but if you're talking about these smaller incidents, there's a decent chance that it's happened since this thread was created.

Tough to do. Some say it has to be 4 deaths, others say 4 injured (which is more fair in my opinion).

This one got little attention outside of Maryland
http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/18/us/maryland-harford-county-shooting/index.html

Guy shot up his work, 3 killed and 3 injured. Then drove to Delaware and shot someone else.

Mass shooting in terms of the workplace shooting, but it wasn't really reported nationally.

Check out this website.  It shows every incident where four or more people were injured by firearms this year. 308.

http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting

I was reading something else that said it should be defined as an incident where four or more people are killed in a public place, in which case the number this year shrinks from 308 to 10.

It's sad that we have to debate the circumstances of mass shootings like this to see what the definition is. It's an attempt to sanitize the problem and make it seem like less of an epidemic.

How callous.
Taking advantage of the 26 that were murdered to start a "next mass shooting" thread is highly disrespectful to those that died.

Benton where are you? Please delete thread.

Didn't you try to take advantage of this same shooting by posting a fake news story about the shooter being an antifa member two days ago?

Someone, please delete this thread.  Vlad needs his safe space.

Says the guy who started a thread and immediately tried to link the shooter to antifa.

This is 'Murica. Being callous, disrespect and taking advantage are the name of the game. Don't be such a snowflake.

I dislike threads like this as well, but boohooing about this behavior when one engages in it isn't going to get you anywhere. Change yourself before trying to change others.

That being said, I do find this thread to be tasteless.

You haven't wondered when the next "big one" will be? All of the ingredients are there. It is only a matter of time.

I really don't. I know one will be coming, but instead of wondering about it I try to discuss the issues surrounding it, send information to my elected officials, and really attempt to affect change.
