Defense By the Quarter
#1
How interesting! I just looked at the defensive numbers for the year and a statistic popped out at me immediately. In the first quarter the Bengals have given up 43 points, 49 points in the second quarter, and 40 points in the fourth quarter — but in the third quarter the Cincinnati defense has only given up 27 points.

Maybe that’s due to adjustments; I’m not sure yet.

So, then, we have 92 points given up in the first half and 67 points given up in the second half. In any league that’s solid second half defense.

This scoring defense at 26.5 points per game is way better then Teryl Austin’s abysmal 35+ points from 2018. It’s not good enough but it’s better and I give props to Lou Anarumo.

Optimistic take - it's because we make adjustments

Less optimistic take - teams are taking their foot off the proverbial gas

Yeah I think teams get a big lead on us and stop attacking as much and run more.

Uhm, haven't we still always been in the games after halftime? it's not usually til the 4th that the other team pulls away.
Even then we've kept most games close. So the pedal part doesn't make sense.
