Depthchart's before Free Agency Mock
#1
Assume that:
TEE is coming back for at least the 2024 season
Boyd is gone
Jonah is gone & the Bengals bring in a serviceable Free Agent RT
A minimum of Tanner Hudson & Mitchell Wilcox return at TE & Bengals spend more than usual for a Free Agent TE
DJ Reader is brought back
Chidobe Awuzie is brought back

Rounds 1 through 7

1. OT JC Latham 6 foot 6  345 lbs Alabama - Bengals will be lucky if Latham is still available at pick #18.
Powerful, long & athletic enough to handle the RT job for years to come - IMO

2. WR Xavier Legette 6 foot 2  225 lbs South Carolina - My Tyler Boyd replacement who could bring an Anquan Boldin type size to
the position. His game video looks good to me. Had 1,255 yards in 2023.

3. DT McKinnley Jackson 6 foot 2  325 lbs Texas A&M - Looks powerful & moves well for his size. In a lot of Mocks on this Message
Board and I think he would be a very good pick also if still available here.

4. DT Mekhi Wingo  6 foot  295 lbs LSU – Built like a Fire hydrant and moves well. Has a chance to be good & he may go
earlier than round 4 by Draft time.

5. RB Audric Estime  5 foot 11  227 lbs Notre Dame – Bengals brought in smaller Chase Brown last year. Bring in a bigger back in
Estime this Draft to bubble up mid round running back talent on the Roster.

6. TE Jared Wiley 6 foot 6  251 lbs TCU - 47 catches for 520 yards & 8 tds in 2023. Could develop into a useful TE option.

7. Corner Willie Roberts  5 foot 11  190 lbs Louisiana Tech - Last round shot at a Corner that appears to be a good tackler and
                                                                                     decent in coverage.

Wouldn't complain about this at all really, have already spoken of my concerns about Latham but he might be good yah never know.

Leggette is a talent, would love him in the 2nd round. Really like McKinnley Jackson as our future Reader replacement. Wingo could be a good
3-tech, Estime looked very good every time I watched him and he looks physical which we need at RB for sure. Haven't seen much of Wiley but
he certainly has good size at TE. Good job Depthchart, would be happy with this.

Legette would be a Tee replacement not a Boyd replacement. Legette is an X outside WR not a slot guy.

Boyd has played both outside and slot during his career. I expect that Legette can learn to do either.

At 6 foot 2 and 225 pounds Legette may be the right type of player for the AFC North and beyond.

I tend to stay more flexible about what these young players coming out of College may be able to learn and

do in terms of where/how they are used. It may be that Legette can be versatile enough to play outside &/or slot.

I'm not sold on the idea of 4th rounder Charlie Jones replacing Boyd.

Jones has just 7 catches for 64 yards but of course it could be said that Xavier Leggette has zero NFL catches so far.

Charlie Jones' size & durability in the AFC North worries me over a 17 game season plus Playoffs with heavy usage.

Tyler Boyd  6 foot 1 and 1/2 inches tall and 197 pounds at his Combine (likely in the 200's now weight wise)

Charlie Jones  5 foot 11 and 3/8 inches tall and 175 pounds at his Combine

Xavier Leggette  around 6 foot 2 inches tall and 225 pounds (and appears to be a 2nd round Prospect)

*If the Bengals want a more Dynamic replacement for Boyd, I am not convinced that Charlie Jones would be it.

If Charlie Jones can be effective then I am all for it.

We will see how the Bengals Plan for Boyd to go if he actually does go which seems likely.
