I'll go along with some of the latest rumors for my first mock, I'll likely only do one more. The Jets run out of options and deal McCarron straight up for DL Sheldon Richardson. He gives them options as they can start him at DE or DT and MJ, Billings and Hardison will still see plenty of time. He either signs long term or is lost for a better comp pick (which they'll angle for) but short term this defensive line is BACK!
1 - 9. Leonard Fournette RB, LSU - This pick will split the board, as debates over an instant HR threat vs durability and an inferior line are trumpeted by the media. People will laugh, then Leonard will lace them up and blast through alleys, getting hit by bigger players and hopefully still outrun them. If there is any smoke to the rumor that they're intrested, the Richardson deal may actually help make this move. If Fournette is their true BPA, there is less of a temptation to take a DL. If he's gone, look for Taco Tuesday on a Thursday night but I think there is a solid chance the Jags and Panthers have the same idea some of you have of taking a DL early and targeting a RB later.
2 - 41. Cam Robinson T, Alabama - He's being mocked by most in the top of the 2nd, look for the true LT Bolles go and the G/T Lamp to go before him. He's too good of a project to pass on and if he shows proper balance may even get a shot at starting at RT/RG from day one. This is the guy that can quickly punch and drive his man back so Fournette can do his thing. Has range to help with the average rush threat, but if speed rushers become an issue he'd be a wicked threat at RG. If you don't think he's here then throw in a slight trade up and throw out one of my 4ths, but this could happen.
3 - 73. Tyus Bowser LB, Houston - Marvin loves these sort of toys at SLB, and Guenther signs off on this one. Basketball background should be looked at as a benefit in guarding TE's rather than nightmares of Hunt's limited football background. Shows big play ability so either way, plenty of opportunities short and long term for him to give this defense added attitude while Vigil and Burfict roam around. Could allow Guenther occasional 3-3-5 looks as he roams around as a pass rush threat that can still step back in short zone.
4 - 116. Tanoh Kpassagnon DE, Villanova - He's very long (6-7) athletic type that they love. He played against lower competition but had tons of production (21tfl, 11 sacks) with the upside you really can't pass on at this point. Will benefit from being able to sit in the revamped DL, but could take over at DE in a season if he seals the edge well.
Trade: Bengals get 4(121) from the Indianapolis Colts for 5(153) and 5(176)
4-121. Tyler Orlosky C, West Virginia - Alexander gets another strong bull to try and make something out of, this one tends to use his leverage better and is that mauler type they go for. He may have issues against complex blitzes, but give him time on the bench hopefully behind a signed Mangold or waiting in the wings behind Bodine. Either way he's worth the trade up to if nothing else give you options and actual depth if one can move to guard.
4 - 138. Howard Wilson CB, Houston - Put together an impressive season after coming off an ACL injury. Has quick hips, leaping ability and a frame to cover a lot of ills. Still needs experience but he may be ready for less physical yet shifty threats. Worth the upside and the depth of this class will yield a really good mid round corner regardless. Being able to land a corner here that could play means Pacman is even more expendable if they deem him a character issue at some point and are waiting to cut him after June 1st.
6 - 193. Jamari Staples WR, Louisville - Everyone wants a deep threat, that's literally all he is at this point. He's too raw to trust with anything more than the go, but he ran a 4.51 and is 6-3 with 33.5in arms. Total gamble at this point, but could make it as the 6th WR and he does block well so if he shows potential on ST he could dress as a rookie.
6 - 217. Davis Webb QB, California - He may slide pretty far as he looks like the typical system QB that thrives on very short throws and may struggle to much more early on. The thought here is you take him as value, if he can beat out Driskell so be it and if not he likely sticks on the PS for a season. Either way, I think they'll give Driskell every shot to win the backup job with say Bruce Gradkowski returning as insurance if both look lost.
7 - 227. Jake Elliott K, Memphis - 2nd best kicker in the draft but it's a poor class. Small frame but pretty accurate and worth the pick as competition and could possibly be their guy.
7 - 251. 227. Ben Gedeon LB/ST, Michigan - He did so well in coverage teams that it would make sense to draft him just for that reason. Don't get excited that this is the new MLB, but he could make the roster and at least not get lost as an emergency MLB and eventual backup at that spot.
