All we are ever offered are politicians. We don't see statesmen anymore, our political system beats that out of them if they get further than the state legislature.
That's true to a degree, but lacking a candidate that checks all the boxes for you doesn't mean there are no good candidates.
But the electorate is, again, largely to blame for better candidates not running. We place a perhaps irrelevant demand for experience, and then we allow the media to dig up dirt on the candidates and their families that has nothing to do with their ability to do their job. The electorate has allowed the well to be poisoned.
