I thought the questions about the offense and the discussions were great. The Ja Mar Chase fourth down run was out in for SF but not used yet. The Uzomah TD play they’ve had for 3 years but never had that coverage but got it and the right play for it? Then Uzomah and Burrow knew it was coming. That sounds like an offense really maturing.

This might be a dumb question, but so many times, you say you’ve worked on plays for years but never run them. What’s a number of those type of plays?

"That’s a hard one for me to answer, to be honest with you. I think in the red zone, that’s just how it works. You might work on, shoot, 25 concepts over the course of a year. The hash matters. The exact yard line matters. The down and distance matters because that dictates what coverage you’re going to see. And so sometimes, it just doesn’t work out to where you get some of these reps that you spend one rep on every Friday for 12 weeks, it just doesn’t come up. It just so happened that the coverage matched the concept that we’ve carried for a long time. And this was a team that showed that coverage that we would like that concept against. The red zones are very particular. I think that’s why we’ve improved in the red zone, because we’ve just repped these concepts over and over and over for so long now that the guys understand them. We spend one walkthrough rep or one live rep on them every Friday. And the guys know, ‘Hey, it may not be this game, it may be four games from now that it comes up.’ But our guys do a good job of just understanding the concept and being where they need to be."

Burrow has gone a long time without throwing an interception and no turnovers yesterday, how big is that?

"Huge. We preach it every week. But when the talent is going to be evenly distributed going forward here, you’ve gotta win the turnover battle or else you’re really handcuffing yourself. Critical that we won two to nothing yesterday in that fashion. Really, the early one, the sack fumble allowed us to gain control of the game. Even though we weren’t able to finish with a touchdown, we got a 10 to three lead and then a 13 to three lead. It just allowed us to play the game how we anticipated playing. So again, that gave us better control of the game and then of course, Germaine put it on ice there at the very end.

"The fake sneak and jet sweep to Ja'Marr Chase, can you describe the challenge of installing a play like that?

"We've had that for a couple weeks. And that's kind of where you're at at this point in the season. You've got a lot of plays that maybe you installed for who knows, San Francisco. I don't even know who we had it in for. But you continue to work it every week until it makes sense for you to call it. And that one made sense to call in that situation. That was a team that does a really good job in short yardage, particularly when you're under center. They make things really difficult for you. So we're fortunate that one worked out for us.

"Is there a look that Burrow has been better against in Year Two than in Year One?

"I haven’t seen many defenses that surprise him. He’s got the answer. I think the best play from him yesterday, honestly, was the seam route to C.J. Uzomah, just because that’s not their primary coverage. That’s really a secondary coverage for them that they don’t major in all the time. So for him to recognize they were getting to that and going to where that progression would lead you, was really impressive and just kind of shows you where he and C.J. are at from a chemistry standpoint and just where Joe’s at from seeing, ‘Hey, this isn’t why we called the play, but I know that this is a great answer versus that coverage look. I thought that was an outstanding job by those two."

What were they doing coverage wise?

"Well, it is a good look for what he did, but you’re calling two different concepts to beat two different coverages. They ended up clouding the side that he worked C.J. on, so C.J. had Devine Deablo carrying him down the seam and Joe put a great ball right over the top of his helmet. Again, not something we work on during the week because that’s not the coverage we were expecting to beat with a lot of our concepts. But, that’s just Joe having the experience and the knowledge that just any game we’re playing in, if a team plays that coverage, we have this concept called and that’s a pretty good answer for it."

This is really cool.  I had heard some of it.

I just love how he doesn't have the classic condescending attitude towards the fans in general.  He gets it.  It would be very easy for him to have "kept receipts" and been bitter to everyone that questioned him, but he just stayed the course.

I saw another poster comment on how he hoped he keeps improving, and that pretty much sums up what I think of this coaching staff.  They seem to improve and learn from their adversity.

I will add one more comment about the coaches:  It was flat out pathetic turnovers (fumbles) by special teams, the RB, and the WR (TD became INT) that lost the 49er and Charger game.  If they won those, they are 12-5 and the #1 overall seed.  Coaching didn't lose those games.

I am so pumped at what they have going.

My prediction has been that they will beat the Titans and then they will face Buffalo in the AFC Championship game and win that as well.

Would that be in Buffalo or in the Jungle?

Tennessee plays great solid defense. It’s not their scheme like Vegas or Denver that separates them. It’s just assignment sound and they are well coached. If Tannehill manages the game well and Derrick Henry has a good game they play tough. But they’ve were also beat by the Jets and have had some clunkers. Like I said when big time players like Burrow and Chase make plays like they did vs KC it doesn’t matter how assignment sound you are.

Buffalo...that is the only downside to losing to the Browns, but I think the rest makes the run possible.

I thought this quote was insightful as well:

"When you’ve got a quarterback who has such a good understanding of what works against certain defensive looks, how does that affect what you do as a play caller?"

"It helps me. You can call trust me. There’s a lot of things I call where he protects the call, either by just checking it down or changing the play or not wasting a shot. We’re showing the shot that we called and he just manages it in several different ways. I don’t need to get into all of them. But that gives me the confidence to really be able to call anything and know that he’s going to get you the best option on the play."

I think Zac calls 2 plays. One of the reasons Joe likes Zac’s system so much is since Zac was a highly successful QB in college they think alike. It’s only going to get better as those 2 together will be always on the same page and see the game the same way. It’s going to be like I saw an interview with Steve Martin and Martin Short. They finish each other’s sentences all the time.

Not just a great read but an amazing throw.

Chargers had 3 turnovers.  Only one less than us.  We lost because Herbert shredded our defense and our offense disappeared after the 3rd quarter.

Niners game we lost because offense came out flat and did not score a td until the 4th quarter.

Those losses were as much on the coaches as any other games.

One of the reasons why Vegas likes Cincy is how they’ve played against teams left my buddy at a major casino says. He says they should have beat GB. Beat KC and lost in OT to SF. He says Vegas is high on the coaching staff and scheming. I’m not surprised with Zimmers comments earlier this year and Clint Stoerner this weekend

In order:  The Bengals were in Charger territory driving with the ball down 4 points when Mixon gave away a fumble TD.  Minimally a 10 point swing.  This, after overcoming the massive deficit.

The Niners were doing NOTHING on offense without the additional possessions (and field possessions) they don't lose that game, either.

Then he does not know what he is talking about.  Packers miss 2 FGs in 4th quarter with one of them a 36 yard chip shot.  Evan's 4th quarter miss was a 57 yard prayer.

Then Burrow throws a horrible pick in OT but is saved by Packers missing a 40 yarder.

They also outgained us by over 100 yards that game.

No way in hell we "should have" beat the Packers.

10 point swing doesn't matter that much when you lose by 19.

Two of our TD drives were only 19 yards and 32 yards because of a Charger turnovers.  That is the only reason we even got close in this game.

Bengals also got an interception on their own 12 yard line.

The dude is also very humble. He talked in the presser Saturday night about he being the one that tightened up on some playcalling and not the players. I've questioned ZT more than once this year on decisions that I still feel were very concerning even though most worked out for him but he simply takes the fright out of the players and they look at some of the decisions and say "it's on us" if we don't make it.

I believe most players would like more of a hand in things on the field versus being on a yo yo and ZT believes his guys can and will make the play.Belief and believing is everything.

Still no excuse for our offense only having 2 FGs through the first 3 quarters.

If a coach can only win a game when he has zero turnovers then he is not much of a coach.

I can’t remember what he said but could is a better word but could have beat GB. We missed a 49 yarder and Crosby a 40 yarder. I think what he meant is we’ve gone toe to toe with GB and KC and SF. Regardless Vegas likes us.
