IT IS REPORTED RFK.Jr. leaving Democratic Party, run as an Independent

As in, only if they are in line with your particular views, right?

Hard to imagine someone who doesn't think his own particular views are "sane or at least decent."

And even harder to imagine anyone voting for whomever he thinks is the less sane/decent candidate,
or less in line with the voter's own particular views.

Who says "Sure, I think Trump is an anti-democratic grifter who tried to overthrow the government and will continue to
sow chaos if re-elected--but he gets my vote because I'm not looking for someone who just aligns with my views on sanity and decency"?

Someone might counter-argue that there are people who believe Trump is all that, but would still vote for him because they think he'd
boost their oil stocks or gun sales or whatever--but even those people are still voting in line with their particular views, setting priorities thereby.

The discussion really ought to be about what counts as sane and decent.

And that should include questions/discussions about how so many become anti-vaxxers or get sucked into
conspiracy theories--or I guess from the conspirator's side, how so many were fooled by the international Globalists
who pick our candidates anyway.

That would eventually lead to discussion of how we determine what is "fact" or "truth" in political matters, how much
empirical evidence plays in that determination and how much other factors, like identity, ideology and disinformation.

In turn, this will finally resolve itself into a conflict between (empirical) fact-based and faith-based methods.
(By "faith" I am not singling out religious folks and value judgements (which aren't judgments of fact)
but ANY who think personal feelings and what-I-just-WANT-to-believe should trump facts.)

How do you know that? I don't listen to him, nothing to do with politics. In the contrary, maybe his audience listens to him regardless of politics.

It seems everything you assume is political.

He has expressed the lack of a pathway under the DNC rules.
How will this impact the election?

We will see soon with polls if Kennedy impacts Trump or Biden. I may be wrong, but the issues in Israel will further the trust of americans of his ability to handle foreign affairs. He was underwater already to Trump on this issue, many will blame his weak foreign policy decisions in the Middle East and his state department being oblivious to the Israel attack.

I saw a story that Trump was going to target him because polling was showing that RFKjr was pulling more support from Republicans than Democrats or Independents

RFK Jr is also scheduled to speak at CPAC, which doesn't seem like the type of place a guy goes to pull people away from team Biden. The real tell will be how Trump speaks of RFK going forward. If he attacks him, it's clear he sees him as a threat...but I guess if Trump wants Biden voters to vote for RFK he can't go too easy on him. This stuff is getting extra weird.

Time will tell, but the right-wing media platforming and legitimizing RFK could very well have the unintended consequence of endearing him more to the right than the left.

It's cute that you think that he's running for voters to have a third choice.

Like most Presidential candidates in the modern era, he and Cornell West are just running to get some of that Citizens United dark money or just to be bought out by the RNC or the DNC to drop out out of the race.
Only users lose drugs.

Nice try.

He added that he would instead push the agency to study chronic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. Mr Kennedy has claimed, without evidence, that both scientists and pharmaceutical companies are ignoring chronic conditions in the hunt for profits. He has argued that this effort includes pushing ineffective and dangerous treatments, and he claims that these include vaccines.

Pharmaceutical companies LOVE chronic diseases.  It means medication dependency for life.  Humira, a medication for rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, psoriasis, and other inflammatory diseases is the best-selling medication in the US.  It costs around $3500/dose.  I suspect that by next year the #1 selling medication is likely to be Ozempic or some other medication in that category.  The top-selling medication list is all about chronic disease. Pharm companies do very little research into infectious diseases.  There is no long-term money in it for them as once the illness is cured the patient doesn't need pharm support any longer.

As for the NIH, their funding covers a lot of categories.  Genetics, cancer, brain disorders, and neuroscience are among a number of areas that receive more money than infectious diseases.  A whole lot of money is spent on dementia and other diseases of aging

What Kennedy doesn't get is that infectious disease is often the precursor to chronic disease.
Infectious diseases (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitical) can spread quickly and kill hundreds, thousands, and millions just as quickly as we saw with COVID.  If the government doesn't do the research, who will?

More money should be spent on medical research but that's not going to happen.  Just because Kennedy is an idiot who believes that vaccinations are worse than the potential effects of the illnesses they strive to prevent or minimize doesn't mean we are all that stupid.
