That's it.  A few were dishonest with their educational history so they went overboard with "extreme vetting" and the current admin wants to dismantle rather than fix it.

I am sure it has nothing in common with the current administration's views on immigrants.  None.   Mellow

You are arguing a different thing, and that is the ending of the program.  The extreme vetting was added when Obama wanted to include DACA.  Which is ridiculous.  This program was designed for a specific purpose.

And once these questions were raised it was discovered many of these individuals posed an "elevated risk" of insider threat.

Brilliant!!

I posted that there was an issue...the "fix" made it worse...but the program was still operating.  Rather than correct the fix Trump's people say just cancel the program.  With no more thought on how it affects the people in OR the military.

Meanwhile...Trump supporters jump in and say you can't blame him for kicking people out NOW while the program is on hold because....TDS (Trump Delusional Syndrome: Defending Trump because you heard the name Trump).

You're funny.

Again you have to go back to Dill's original question.  That is what we were discussing.

The problem is the way the Trump administration ended the program.

They changed the rules to screw over the people who had already signed up.  They could have ended the program without doing that.

I agree.  The people in the pipeline need to be taken care of.

Not that it matters but the MAVNI program was initially suspended in SEP 2016.

Maybe this was done to take care of those in the pipeline and those in the pipeline have been taken care of, but some just don't like the outcome of a few individuals, so "Trump's fault"'

No.  What matters is that in 2017 the DOD under the Trump administration changed the rules

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/new-department-defense-rules-put-future-some-non-citizen-recruits-n814366

On Oct. 13, the Department of Defense issued policy changes that impact the ability of non-citizen recruits, both within the program and outside, to obtain citizenship.

To apply for naturalization, recruits are required to submit a document confirming their military service along with their naturalization application. Prior to the policy change, one day of service was sufficient to be eligible.
But under the new policy, applicants will need to complete all necessary background and security checks, complete basic training, and serve 180 consecutive days in active duty or one year in the selected reserve among other requirements before their service can be considered honorable.

As I said, further discussion is pointless. The process was ended due to results from extreme vetting and suspension of the program established under the Obama administration that established an elevated risk. This is open source; as has been displayed numerous times through out this thread, and any attempts to make it "because Trump" is steeped in ignorance and bias. So please continue; just know that I will not.

We cannot give Trump credit for the economy because of policies and trends established during the Obama administration, However, we can blame him for the failure of this program started by Obama that was vetted and found to be flawed under that same administration.

And folks like to consider themselves rational.

It is not just the ending of the program.  It is the way they changed the rules in 2017 that denied these guys who were already enlisted their shot at citizenship.

There was no need for that change.

The issue is being taken to court and the immigrants are being represented by a retired Army Lt. Col.  We will see who is being rational.

We'll just have to take you at your word that there was no need for that change.

No you don't.  You could give me the reason.

We will wait and see what the courts say.
