Hmm. Surprised by the Irwin move. I guess that was necessary to get a 3rd QB active.

Not necessarily. This spring the NFL owners approved a rule change whereby a third QB can dress on game days and not count toward the active roster limit. (The so-called Brock Purdy Rule.) So this would not have to be the reason Irwin is inactive. The 3rd QB could be on the squad (and in this case, be part of the 54- or 55-limit that one can get -- versus the 53 -- when they elevate a practice-squad member just for a game) and made active should a QB go down. However, I guess if they actually made him active, rather than use that rule and just have him dress and not count toward the active roster limit, then I guess it could be a factor. No idea why they would do that, since it looks like Burrow is starting and they could just dress Reid Sinnett.
