Jeb Bush Now Going With: Thanks Obama Approach
#21

To be fair, Obama tried to keep troops in Iraq longer than the Bush time table called for but Iraq said no.

What will be funny is if Obama backers use that piece of information as it will show that the Iraq exit should be credited with Bush, not Obama, and Obama tried to go back on a campaign promise by staying in Iraq.

It literally doesn't matter when we leave because the same shit is going to happen.  When there is a power vacuum that vacuum needs to be filled. Iraq as it is drawn on the map shouldn't even exist. At a minimum it needs to be split into three self governing countries composed mostly of Sunnis, Shites, and Kurds because they can't live together peacefully unless they're governed by the likes of Saddam.  No matter what we do there ultimately the people of Iraq need to solve this themselves because no matter what we try to implement it won't solve the problem. And no matter what the people of Iraq try to implement it won't solve the problem. Because there is no solution when people hate each other this much and have been killing each other for this long over religious differences.  There is no right answer.

I was referring to the initial exit, but from what I have read, either Obama did or did not want to keep those final 10,000. Panetta suggests they could have but Obama undercut that plan. Others have said Obama didn't have the political capital to get a deal approved that would keep that many.

Can't really argue much with this. The stability is dependent on them. We can stay in for 40 years and they could never be stable. Most nations in this region should probably be broken up into smaller nations. The various ethnic groups need self determination. We allowed that to happen in Europe but not in the Middle East following WWI.

Could not agree more! Kudos!

I often discussed this with an extreme right winger who worked at our shop. I told him if left in 1 year or 10,000 years the last bad guy would crawl out of a hole and claim victory and say they drove the Americans out.

Its a no-win situation and always has been which is why W's daddy didn't go in and take Saddam out.
