I wouldn't call Mixon a "good guy" per say.  He made his bed, and he's had to lie in it.  He's dealt with the situation about as well as anybody can expect to this point.  The thing with Mixon is he's proven himself to be a big asset to the team.  If he looked like Mark Whalton out there, people would still be calling for his head.

Their situations are very different.  There's more reason to think Mixon has learned his lesson based on a number of factors.  Their respective crimes are very different.  Mixon decked the woman in his incident with one shot, then immediately heads for the door.  He instantly knew he did something wrong.  Simmons continues punch the woman in his incident in the head while she's lying helpless on the ground.  Then, he puffs his chest out and starts barking like he accomplished something.  Joe Mixon comes off from the video as a person who understands the difference between right and wrong that lost control for an instant.  Simmons comes off as someone who either doesn't know right from wrong or just doesn't care.

In Mixon's case, he was suspended for an entire season.  Simmons was suspended for one game.  Mixon came from a program where stuff like that wasn't going to be tolerated and paid a steep price for it.  Simmons got a slap on the wrist from a coach that's more concerned about his W-L record than holding his player's accountable.
