Logan Wilson was the right linebacker to pick in the third but ADG really excites me
#1
I am very excited to see both develop considering each went to non power-5 schools. Wilson needs more wiggle in the middle of the field but cleans up nicely on the sidelines which we did not have in Vigil and is supposedly good in coverage. ADG would have been a day 2, potential day 1 if he went to a better school. His tape is reminiscent of Khalil Mack against OSU - he had 14.5 tackles for loss and impacted in all parts of the game, but he is much smaller and has less power which is why he wasn't taken until the fourth - he's could be a bust but could also be a hidden gem. He also has a very underrated bend in the pass rush.

With ADG and Pratt, we will have two converted safeties at LB. I don't know too much about the 3-4, so I might be wrong in my projections. Wilson is somewhere between a MLB and OLB in a 4-3, kind've in the Devin Bush mold. I don't know where that position lines up in a 3-4 but most likely MLB. ADG gives the versatility of a player with the combined skillsets of Telvin Smith and Khalil Mack but not nearly good as those two (or maybe?) so probably weakside MLB/OLB (I'm pretty sure the second MLB in a 3-4 is traditionally more of a weakside 4-3 lb but that might be the OLB in a 3-4 too). Pratt was underrated last season, his Clemson tape is still very very underrated. Pratt plays very similar to Isaiah Simmons which might have some overlap with ADG.

My gut is Wilson and Bynes will be MLB with ADG and Pratt as OLB but Bynes might shift outside with Pratt inside. ADG gives some pass-rush that you traditionally seek in a 3-4 OLB. It remains to bee seen what role Lawson will play in the defense or if they place Hubbard/Dunlap at OLB instead of one of the players mentioned so that they have all four of Reader, Atkins, Dunlap, and Hubbard on the field at all times. The versatility will be nice, but I'm not quite sure if the scheme fits the personnel. We should be much better though.

People are getting way too hung-up on this 3-4 nonsense.

We will have LESS than 20% of our total defensive snaps next year, as a 3-4.

We will a be a 4-man front Nickel for 75% of our snaps or more, thus this whole 3-4 stuff is completely moot.

Expect the most-often used defense to be:

Hubbard----Geno----Reader-----Dunlap
Pratt/ADG---------Wilson
WJax----Bates---Bell----Shawn/CB---Waynes

Anarumo said we would be in nickel a lot last year cause we only had 2 linebackers that was worth having on the field. So we was forced to play nickel so much not by choice. I think with the better LB we picked up we will not be in nickel as often but our LB are young so that might affect how early in the year we can go to 4-3 and 3-4 alinements.

I agree. We will see a lot more 4-3 looks because now we can actually run the right LB crew out there.

Hubbard - Geno - Reader - Dunlap

Pratt - Bynes - Wilson (with a healthy rotation to eventually put Wilson where Bynes is and ADG where Wilson is)

Jackson/Alexander - Bell - Bates - Waynes

Most of the league runs in the nickel 65% or more nowadays, hence why I said that.

Trust me Wink

I am terrified of watching the Bengals with 4 LBs on the field at the same time. I might cue up some Yakety Sax by Paducah native Boots Randolph when/if it happens.

To be honest . . . I think that much of their "3-4" will have Shawn Williams or another Safety posing as one of the LBs.

Linebacker has by far and away been the weakest position throughout the Bengals history. There have been some great ones for a short time(Bergey, LeClair, Burfict) but all together . . . very, very weak.

Just like last year we will see a 34, 43, 335, 425, 245, 3 safeties, 3 corners...etc.
I have the Heart of a Lion! I also have a massive fine and a lifetime ban from the Pittsburgh Zoo...

A healthy Bailey may have something to say about these plans....

The LB room is looking pretty good on paper. Their is youth there even with the Calitro signing as he's still pretty young but has potential which could unseat Bynes (who I think is on the bubble with this signing).

Looking forward to being able to watch LB's again.

Bynes will play between 30 & 40% of the Snaps. My big question is who starts in Nickel between Pratt, Wilson, and ADG?

Agreed about Nickel! Also think we're going to see a ton of Lawson at Edge and Williams at LB.

The Majority of teams are playing 3 Wrs 70% times I doubt we see a ton of Base this season.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Almost every FA we got this year was to help stop the run I think we need more LB on the field to do this as well. So that is why I think we will see more 3-4 or 4-3 formations.

Rather than get caught up in formation usage, the two kids could be pretty special. Wilson was the right pick, and ADG was nice potential that fell.

I think Wilson will be the glue guy the LB crew needed, even as a rookie. He's going to be one of those guys that makes an impact regardless of tackle numbers and INTs. His instincts and run pass recognition will help with consistently helping others make plays. No matter if it's making the QB wait a split second to find a hot read or getting washed out by a guard at the line so another guy gets the RB, his impact will be felt.

From what I've seen of ADG, he has a knack for getting to the perimeter and using that frame to his advantage. He's still raw in coverage for a guy his size, but keep it simple for him and he should bring a few big plays as a rotational guy.

Not impressed with Bynes at all, but I like the guys we drafted.

Only concern with ADG is that he just had surgery for a brokjen bone in his foot. Hope he is fully recovered by training camp.

I'm very pleased with the three young backers that we drafted. Ts, dude! Not arguing with you, but you left out several stud Bengal LB's. Dhani, Takeo, and REGGIE WILLIAMS just to name a couple.

Hard to see Jordan Evans making the team this year. And that's a good thing.

One of his knees is also bone on bone.  It's very concerning to me that a kid that only played at 215 has this many issues with his wheels and he's going to have to bulk up to be an every down player.

Personally, I would keep him down in the 210-215 range and use him in a limited capacity as a package player.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that "bone to bone" rumor has been debunked.

That is good to hear.

I tried to research the "bone on bone" claim, but all I got was a bunch of gay porn videos.

Wilson also played Safety before and with his tackling and coverage ability should start immediately. My only concern with either
of these guys is the small schools and the conversion to the NFL game but that shouldn't be any worse than what we saw last
season at the position and you are right about Pratt, this guy is underrated IMO.

Think Pratt could be a future star and so could ADG if he gains some weight and doesn't lose speed.

Think Wilson will be the most solid for us though once he gets the speed of the NFL game down. Love how this guy tackles.
