Marvin Lewis Flaw...He Lacks Control That Winners Need
#1
Sometimes he has absolutely no control over his team and players, which is bad for a head coach.

That so many Bengals were like loose cannons in that play-off game and ended up costing Bengals and Bengals fans first play-off win in forever....That falls on Coach Lewis. ...The fact that he couldn't control his players, tell them to stop the nonsense, don't lose focus on the game and the win. ...Announcers said Lewis tried to calm Burfict down a few times, but he just walked away from Lewis. AT THAT POINT, Burfict should have never went back in the game.  Players not listening to the coach and that wild are a liability to the team and can cost you a win, which it did.  A coach should never put a player out of control and out of focus back into the game.

When Chad Johnson went to New England, the coach there said there would be no more of that end zone/ sideline stuff or he would be off the team. Chad Johnson agreed per that coach.  Why didn't Lewis have him stop or at least cut back on that nonsense here ?.....The one coach is a winner, and Lewis is a loser.

Then we have all the off field problem players Lewis thought he could bring in over the years, and not only did it not work, but the NFL came down on the Bengals and Mike Brown told Lewis it had to be cleaned up, all the player problems with the law and suspensions.

So in looking back at the play-off loss, it is another case of Coach Lewis having no control over his team and a big reason why Carson Palmer wanted out of this team where there is no focus on winning and no direction by the coach. ....The Bengals had the lead with around 20 seconds left needing a 65 yard field goal in the rain to win, and 2 stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties took no time off the clock but made it a 35 yard field goal.  Just brainless and a coach that lost control over his players most of the game it seems.

I don't know if Lewis will ever be a coach that has control or knows what to do when the players don't listen to him.

Is the flaw here with Marvin or with Mike Brown? The final call with who is on the team is with the owner. Kraft would back Bellichick up. I'm not sure Mike Brown would.

EXACTLY.  Son of Paul was the one that brought that crazy S.O.B. Henry back in the fold after Marv publicly kicked him out for good.  I'm no Marv supporter , but that is on Mike Clown.

Palmer wanted out because he and Marvin were a team of "Hey Mike, make these changes or we're outta here" and Marvin flipped on Carson for some job security and little perks the second Mikey boy said "NO." Sure the reason of wanting to win took them both into Mike's office as a team, but Marvin being unable to stick to his guns is what caused the rift.

But hey, Carson and Marvin still have their same job titles as they did in 2010 and are both in the playoffs, so everyone wins.

My thoughts exactly.

Well, Marvin was one and done in the play-offs as normal.....it didn't have to be that way. Bengals had the game won until they gave the Steelers 30 yards and game winning field goal range on stupid penalties by players out of control and out of focus.  It's this simple, players out of control not listening to Bengals coaches needed to come out of the game and cool off.  That Lewis didn't get control of his team and instead lost control of his team led to Lewis remaining without a play-off win and 7 one and done's....A few Bengals players lost focus and control in 2005 play-off at halftime also, and Lewis never regained control. ...It is this flaw that keeps this team losing. ..It is this flaw that gave away a play-off game we had won.

Chad Johnson couldn't succeed in NE. Carson once said Chad runs his own routes. I wonder if NE made him run correct routes, and he couldn't pull it off - and Marvin let him get away with it.

Burfict has given Marvin multiple opportunities to establish some discipline.  Marvin's failure to establish control throughout Burfict's career came back to bite him in the ass at the worst possible moment.

And his failure to establish to his running backs to hold onto the ball in a situation where yards weren't as important.

True, however, there is no guarantee that any coach could reign him in.
More often than not, a dirty player remains a dirty player after a trade.

Mind you, it is an argument that Marvin as a GM...

You only have a point because a kicker missed a 27 yard field goal.

And the Bengals are only not going forward because of an injury to their QB, some BS penalties, a catch called a TD that wasn't. If you want to play the excuse game, fine, but play it for everyone.

No, because he is the coach and the buck stops here.   This is no lame excuse but a pointing of the finger at the coach who had no control over his players.  That coach for New England in no way would have let players have back to back unsportsmanlike conduct calls and move a teams from a 65 yard field goal to a 35 yard field goal taking no time off the clock at the end of the game.  The better coaches do not allow players to get this insane and this far out of focus. Paul Brown, Lombardi, no way they allow a game to be lost this way.

As for the QB injury, McCarron threw what should have been the game winning TD....the Steelers catch called a TD was indeed a TD and a great catch.....the only BS about the penalties at the end was that the Bengals were full of BS for moving the ball 30 yards closer to a field goal and out of control, and that also has to be placed on the head coach.  Either they don't listen to him, or they don't care what he thinks, one as bad as the other. ....The end of the game was a total lack of leadership by coaches and yes, team captains and veteran players who should have got players back under control or made them leave the field.

This is not an excuse...far from it....there is no excuse for lack of leadership.

Marvin's biggest flaw is choking. When the lights are on and it's win or go home, Marvin freezes up, goes conservative and loses control of the game through bad judgements AND inability to calm down the team. When he gets tight, they play tight.

Ok, so he's what...6 behind Marvin?  I think the only loss we would legit claim around here is the 2013 one.  Most losses in the NFL can be "excused" with a little creativity.

I think the whole argument of "Marvin has no control over his players" is a bit tired and overplayed. What is Marvin supposed to do.. threaten these guys that if they don't behave in class they will have to sit in time out? Marvin knows the fire these guys brings to the field. He also knows that their talents and the good they bring to the team greatly outweighs the negatives. Burfict had only 3 personal foul calls all season. What did Pacman have, 2? It's not like these guys are costing them games on a weekly basis. Burfict essentially closed the last game with his interception. He even helped the comeback by his big hit on Ben, knocking him out of the game. I can guarantee any other coach would love to have Burfict. He would start every game any where else, and he would continue to have questionable hits and personal fouls, because that's just who he is. He's a great player because of the intensity he brings. You can't hold that back, unless you sit him, but then you are hurting the team more than if he was playing.

So it was his fault that Jeremy Hill fumbled the game away?  It was his fault the refs blew countless calls (Bryant TD, Shazier hit, Shawn Williams hit, Porter on the field, etc.)?  It was his fault his starting QB broke his thumb on a freak play?  It was his fault AJ Green stopped running his route in the Denver game when McCarron delivered a perfect thrown ball that should have been a TD, effectively winning that game and getting them a first round bye?

Sorry, I'm not buying what you're selling.
