Montas opening day starter

Wonder how Greene feels about that ? I didn't realize it but Abbott has been getting rocked as well. It's still way early for sure but one eyebrow is halfway up on those two.

Eh, it's ST. Both those young guys are probably trying new pitches / approaches while it doesn't count so I'm not going to worry much. As for Montas, good for him. From everything I've heard and read on him thus far, he has worked his tail off to be ready and is already taking on that vet-in-the-rotation role, teaching guys his cutter. He knows you gotta induce GBs and minimize fly balls as much as possible in this league (especially so at GABP) to be effective and he has one of the deadliest cutters in the game. I hope our young guys take note!

Yup, hopefully he can teach them something, especially Greene. If he can develop another pitch he could become a true ACE, I hope.

With today's game being heavily influenced by metrics, pitch counts, and innings counts I wonder if SPs care about being the opening day starter as much?

In the long run, it should help him. Last year, most of the time, he faced the other team's ace. This year, he'll have a little less pressure in that regard.

He has a long term contract, he's still in the learning phase of how to pitch and, while he may not be the number one, he's already had a season of being the number one under his belt. If he stays healthy, this could turn out quite awesome for us Reds fans.

I sure hope so. I'm ready for some post season success.

I wouldn't be shocked if we've already seen the best of Abbott. He reminds me a lot of Tom Browning in the sense of ''I have no idea why these MLB hitters aren't crushing this guy, he's not blowing anyone away but he keeps getting outs.'' Outside of Greg Maddux, they always catch up to guys like that.

The team's roster depth is already depleted with injuries, PEDs, and the such.
