Sad that it had to even get to this point.

I don't believe any of us posting here can't sympathize with people trying to improve their own situation. We all have hearts.

So why don't you hold the guy responsible who used that pen to get us in the current situation instead of blaming others for pointing it out.

Because the "stay in Mexico" policy wasn't solving the problem and was causing other major problems along the border including sanitation and crime issues that were spilling over.  This is a problem caused by Congressional inaction, not by Presidential actions and I would say that regardless of the President.  I may not like the actions individual Presidents have chosen but that is all Congress has left them. They have to put into legislation laws that actually give the Executive branch the tools and money to address the border and undocumented workers

Immigration and the border problems right now are the culmination of decades of Congressional inactivity.  Failure to modernize the laws and update them to reflect the current situation has resulted in a series of Executive Orders most of which faced court challenges and haven't solved the problem.  The only thing that has slowed down the border issues has been a pandemic.

Congress keeps punting the problem down the road and the road has finally hit a dead end. It is time for them to do some heavy lifting and actually pass legislation

You mean the policy that is still active?

As for the opinion piece linked, I really don't care. It is partisan opinion, nothing more.

In what way has the Biden administration ignored the situation? They are enforcing the current law. Congress appropriates the funds to provide the resources, which is something that hasn't happened. The executive branch's role is to enforce the laws passed by Congress with the money appropriated by Congress.

The executive branch is not supposed to have unilateral power to do these things. That's not how our system is set up.

Who used their pen to get us in the current situation?

People do have hearts, which is why it's important to frame refugees as dangerous criminals when pushing for severe policies.

Yes, but we have to want a good vetting process. As others have pointed out this is a decades-long issue, but at the same time we have one of the 2 political parties we are so generously given to choose from that is outright admitting that IF they make things as bad a possible at the border THEN we will respond by giving them more power and it looks like we're on board with that.

Maybe I'm wrong, I just feel like we're going to watch democrats lie down and/or be unable to do anything even if they wanted to while the GOP intentionally makes things as bad as possible so we will vote them back into power and they can simply declare "mission accomplished" on the border and the economy and then spend all their time funneling as much wealth into the upper echelons of society as possible.

A year from now the view on the border will be "it's fine, a republican is in the white house" and the view on the economy will be "sell your iphone and stop wasting your money on crap you don't need."

OK GOP censures Sen Lankford, a tried and true conservative. His crime...working with Democrats on a border deal. And we wonder why nothing gets accomplished

That's where we are at the moment, the worse things are, the better the GOP will do even if it is their fault.  The GOP is throwing acid in our proverbial face so no one else wants us and we're stuck with them.

I wonder if Democrats are blaming Republicans because it's the Republicans fault?

Oh would you look at that - every bill passed by the Senate to address fixing the border has been torpedoed by House Republicans.
