Oculus Quest 2
#1
I was thinking about picking one of these up for when the fam comes to visit. Does anyone have any experience with these and what do you think? I'm looking for something that will entertain folks immediately. No long story modes...

The Oculus Quest was fun. I like Flight Sims with a HOTAS. I'm not much for racing games but I hear they are great on it. I suggest an Arcade Shooter at first like Space Pirate Trainer.
I have the Heart of a Lion! I also have a massive fine and a lifetime ban from the Pittsburgh Zoo...

If Robo Recall is available that is probably the most fun I had playing VR.

If you like porn. VR makes it 1.7 million times better

Thanks, but porn is really not what I'm looking for to entertain the fam when they visit.

Now Robo Recall may be something to explore.

Elite Dangerous (space sim) is pretty great in VR. Moss is a cute game that is good for the kids.

If you have trouble with nausea, Pinball FX VR is surprisingly fun. I wouldn't have thought VR would improve the experience of pinball but it really is pretty cool. And no nausea whatsoever because you are basically stationary.

Never got one but a coworker mentioned she just started a new game "In Death" so I was going to go ahead and make the purchase this weekend. Now it appears these things have gotten recalled. Apparent wearing a foam mask on your face for hours can cause irritation.

They are replacing foam with silicone and uping the storage for the base model. Relaunch is scheduled for 28 AUG 21

I'm bumping this thread versus creating a new one.

I got one of these a couple months ago and while I see it as more of a novelty gaming system, it's been pretty fun.

I have 3 games for it:
  • In Death: Unchained - Since rouglikes/roguelites are my favorite genre, I had to pick this one up.  This one i probably play the most.  It's moderately difficult but is put together quite well.  It's a dungeon crawler bow and arrow type game.
  • Beat Sabre - This is just fun but I'd probably give it more time if it had more music options which appealed to my ear for something like this.
  • Thrill of the Fight - I got this (boxing) game just because many people say it's exhausting to play.....and it is.  However I only play this on (most) days i skip the gym since it's exhausting af....but pretty fun.  If it had an actual career mode or something instead of just showing up to the gym and box I bet i'd play it more.
I don't like the overall limited game selection as it seems like many games are made like old school 16 bit graphics.....heavy polygons and things like that.  I get that it's basically just an android phone but I'd love to see higher quality games that fit my interests.  We're probably years from that.

One last note, I did read the NFL signed a licensing agreement with a company to make their first VR game this fall (you get to be the QB) so I'm really looking forward to that.  Hopefully it's something more than just mini games.

I found it to be great for things other than gaming. I watch youtube vids on it. I also have a game called Holofit. It connects to the elliptical and allows me to "explore" places.

A friend of mine asked me if I've used it for porn yet....i guess that's a thing.

Nintendo Switch > Occulus
Especially for FAMILY gaming.
MarioKart
Super Smash Bros
Mario Party
Mario Golf (super fun, loved it)
Many other “family oriented” games.

No goofy uncomfortable goggles to wear. Totally portable. Probably same price.

I've wanted to try VR for sometime now but was afraid to dump a lot of money into something that didn't live up to my expectations. I've never tried VR. I imagine it being cool but seriously, is the quality good enough to actually make you feel like you are somewhere else?

Sadly that aspect will likely sell more VR units than games.

Not sure if its on Occulus 2 or not. But the Pinball FX is suppose to have VR (its basically just you standing at an actual Pinball table. So like being back in the arcade)

I watched this.  It excites me that VR will likely make it to "Ready Player One" immersion before I will be too old to care.

I find the experiences (travel, exploring, flying, ect...) to be extremely realistic. The games are not quite "Free Guy" level but very good if you realize you're going to be a cartoon.

It is pretty wild. First time I played it got me dizzy but I drank enough brewskies to where it was fun and became addicting.

If you have never tried it I would try it first though before dumping money into it. My sister has it so I didn't have to get it.

Beat Sabre is a cool game the whole family plays all the time and Moss is a cool kids game with great graphics.

Also getting on Youtube and exploring might be my favorite thing to do with VR. You can go pretty much anywhere and yes
it makes you feel like you are there. But we all know different. Sometimes you have troubles with balance at the beginning
and not knowing where you are in the room so better move shit out of your way.

Same. At first when I saw this stuff coming out I was like hell no, no way you makin' me a zombie like that!

It isn't like that though once you try it. Not like it is the mark of the beast or anything lol  Hilarious
