On Thursday, CNN's Chris Cillizza issued perhaps his most embarrassing tweet yet, a string of breathless OHMYGODs in response to a report that the wife of Polish President Andrzej Duda supposedly stiffed President Trump's handshake.
The only problem, like so many breathless "Fake News CNN" reports these days, is that it simply wasn't true.
The false report eventually made its way to President Duda himself, who took to Twitter on Thursday to smack down the "FAKE NEWS" pushed by CNN and others.
"Contrary to some surprising reports my wife did shake hands with Mrs. and Mr. Trump @POTUS after a great visit. Let's FIGHT FAKE NEWS," wrote Duda.
It's moments like these that you'd hope that Cillizza and his colleagues at CNN would take a breath, recommit to good old fashioned journalistic standards, and agree to count to ten before tweeting or reporting or opinionating in an effort to save their sinking brand. But even as their ratings collapse (here's a look at the numbers from last week; they're devastating for the formerly "Most Trusted Name In News"), CNN continues its unhinged crusade against Trump, which is clearly doing far more damage to them than him.
As for those plummeting ratings, for some perspective, not only is CNN trailing far behind both Fox News and MSNBC now (check out the numbers from last Tuesday below), it's now losing to ... Nick-at-Nite. Ouch.

She did shake hands...and he did look foolish. Both were because he didn't understand the formality of her shaking hands with the FLOTUS first.
The two things are not mutually exclusive.
Where do you stand on foreign leaders slamming our country? Or the POTUS bad mouthing a former president and the intelligence community while on foreign soil?

Oh not understanding the protocol..... like when Michelle obama put her man mitts all over the queen?
Trump got along well with the Polish president.... Poland is doing a lot of good things and it's a shame we do not have more immigrants from there.... good workers.

Correct. Trump, again, didn't understand protocol. What Mrs. Obama did or did not do is irrelevant to this discussion.

So He slammed a weak president in obama and the intel community has shown itself to be a problem with all their leaks and subversion.

Oh yeah, like removing the supreme court as government branch, hindering the free press and implementing an authoritarian leadership, with a little help from Brother Vladimir.

Stopping the "refugees", displaced persons, and economic migrants is a good start.
This Poland doesn't bow to the EU like dogs. They see the EU for what it is.... another German power grab.

If The Supreme Court has gotten as out of hand as the courts have in this country then it's warranted.

This is about as spot on as anything that's been stated on these boards.
Only problem is they would have to be told to do as such. Wouldn't be a hard sell, but would take a gutsy snake oil salesman with all the best words.

Those are all good things from the perspective of the authoritarian right. Immigrants bring disease and race-mixing; courts check executive power.
So what are your thoughts on democracy as a political form?
Do you think a system of checks and balances like that in US democracy is a good thing because it checks authoritarian leaders or a bad thing because it prevents them from consolidating power, as we see happening in Poland and Turkey?
The Law and Justice party has brought the press under state control, more directly than even Putin has. Would something like that be a good measure for the US as well?

I love how quickly the original point of this thread, that a major news network was called out by a world leader for pushing something that is instantly and easily *verified* false, changed.... to authoritarianism.
All because someone one response into the thread wanted to derail it off topic to avoid facing some truths they don't want to face.
