Politics Podcasts
#1
I doubt that anyone on here is quite as prolific of a political podcast listener as I am, but I'm curious if anyone else listens to any.

Some of my favorites:

Balanced and elevated discussion
http://politicsguys.com/
https://www.kcrw.com/news-culture/shows/left-right-center
http://www.pantsuitpoliticsshow.com/

Left-wing partisan fun
https://crooked.com/ (I listen to all of these)

Specialty ones
https://www.thecipherbrief.com/podcasts/intelligence-matters (lots of conversation about the intelligence community)
https://www.brookings.edu/series/brookings-cafeteria-podcast/ (more policy than politics)

I have some other ones I listen to sporadically, but these are my usual ones. I'm always looking for more like those in the top three, which involve people on both sides of the ideological divide discussing issues. So if anyone has any to add, bring them on!

I prefer my podcasts to be more entertaining/escapism than political.

I will listen to Abe Lincoln's Top Hat

https://www.lastpodcastnetwork.com/?category=Abe+Lincoln%27s+Top+Hat

I'd say it's liberal but even handed. I'll assume others will think it is VERY liberal.  Smirk But primarily I listen because I like the two hosts from another podcast they do. One of the hosts is a regular on FOX News though.

That's about as political as I get with those!

Yeah, my wife doesn't ever want to listen to these with me (with the exception of a couple from Crooked Media that are lighter). Being the wonk I am, though, I eat this stuff up.

I wish I had more time for podcasts, but I don't have a long commute and I can't listen to things while I work. This website works for me because I can read/post during my planning periods and between classes.

We have some pop-culture ones that she likes and I will listen to with her. Mostly because she isn't too familiar with podcast stuff. I've been listening to them since episode one of SModCast, so I'm in deep.

See, I have no friends and don't really like television, so I listen to podcasts while I do things in the evening, or I listen to music while reading.

Old guy here. Where exactly do you listen to podcasts? Is it like a radio talk show?

Edit: Yes I’m serious. I of course have heard of podcasts, but don’t know how they work.

I'm going to answer this as if you are serious because I don't know if you are or not, but I am in a helpful mood.

Some of the links I listed, you can listen to them there. They will play on your computer if they have them loaded on their website. There are also applications you can download on your phone that will allow you to listen to them. I, personally, use Podcast Addict for my Android system.

Podcasts are a lot like radio talk shows. Pretty much anyone that has something to talk about can throw one together. The ones I listed will often talk about what is going on in politics currently, they will have guests on and interview them, things like that.

In the past, I would download them and just listen to it on my phone in the car like it was a big music file

Same here.  Five minute commute and can't listen while at work.

But I listen while working around the house, cutting the grass and any time I'm in the car longer than 5 minutes.

I do occasionally cut back on the number of podcasts I am listening to though.

I ran the SModCast ones heavy when I first started listening.  Now it's just HBO.  When I would run out of episodes I'd try a new one though.

All of the above.  You can download and listen via iTunes or an app.

I use FMplayer and download to my phone.

I like Left, Right, & Center for a good all-around view, and Best of the Left for things that I'm typically concerned about.

These next two aren't always political, but religious....but given that religion is pretty political, they touch on it enough.....The Thinking Atheist is good for some "let's make the world better" stuff, and The Scathing Athiest is good for some "What the **** is wrong with Christians" type talk....both of which I enjoy a bunch.

I don’t have the time for this many podcasts. But I do listen to Ben Shapiro’s when I have time. You should check it out sometime even though you won’t agree with it much I think you might find it interesting.

Yeah, no thanks. I've listened to a couple of episodes, and while Shapiro has a good grasp on issues I just can't bring myself to listen to him regularly. I listen to crooked Media stuff because it's fun, not so much for the politics of it, and so I can't bring myself to listen to partisan clownishness with someone who isn't that funny.

Yeah I have the same feeling when I listen to pod save America

Yeah, although I find them funny I worry about people that go to the more partisan sources for their information. I know people that do for both PSA and Ben's pod. It can be a good listen, but we need balance.

You get balance by listening to both. I just don’t Trust anyone who tries to play it down the middle. Everyone has a position, just be up front about it so we can at least know your bias prior.

I get the balance from the first three I listed. They have folks from both different sides talking about issues in a reasoned discussion. Listening to one side rant on and then listening to the other side separately is not as effective at hashing out the issues as we like to think. It's better to have a dialogue to listen to, a back and forth discussion, because you will get answers to questions that would not be answered by listening to people from different sides separately.
