RNC uses Don Lemon's own material against Democrats
#1
Pretty self explanatory here, nothing that you haven't already heard.  Just thought someone should post in in P&R.

Quote:The Republican National Committee released an ad on Tuesday using footage of a CNN contributor mocking Trump voters as “credulous rubes.”

In the CNN segment, contributor Rick Wilson says the Trump administration is “defined by ignorance of the world” and referred the “credulous boomer rube demo that backs Donald Trump.” Anchor Don Lemon bends over laughing in response to Wilson’s jibes.

The RNC cross-cut footage of the segment with clips of Democratic presidential candidates criticizing Trump’s voter base.

“You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call ‘the basket of deplorables,'” former candidate Hillary Clinton says in one clip. Another plays footage of South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg saying, “Anyone who supported this president is, at best, looking the other way on racism.”

The ad ends with the message, “They think you’re a joke. Prove them wrong in November.”

Lemon attempted to walk back his reaction after the CNN segment drew criticism from conservatives.

“During an interview on Saturday night, one of my guests said something that made me laugh. And while in the moment, I found that joke humorous. And I didn’t catch everything that was said,” Lemon asserted. “Just to make it perfectly clear, I was laughing at the joke and not at any group of people.”

The ad comes as President Trump gears up for reelection in November. The Democratic primary remains volatile but it has winnowed to four likely candidates. While former vice president Joe Biden has retained the lead in most national polls, socialist Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has surprised establishment Democrats with a durable candidacy and consistent, enthusiastic base of support. Buttigieg and Senator Elizabeth Warren continue to poll slightly behind Sanders and Biden nationally.

The president, meanwhile, is currently facing an impeachment trial in the Senate over his alleged actions regarding Ukraine.]

Yeah, sure he is..  In the video clip that I watched, he appears to be the token RINO to supplement the anti-Trump agenda of the host of the show he was appearing on.   Mellow

He served in the George H W Bush administration and worked on Rudy’s campaign for mayor in addition to many other Republicans. The fact that he doesn’t fall in line behind a populist leaning GOP president who hasn’t been a Republican as long as him doesn’t mean he a RINO.

I’m assuming you didn’t know anything about his political background before you made this post

He wasn't very strategic or he wouldn't have acted like that in front of a camera. They let their true feelings out in that clip. Pretty apparent to most.

I'll take your word on that part, but the video clip showed me all I need to know about the guy, and how he feels about ME.

Yeah, Rick Wilson is a die hard conservative and a lifelong Republican and was/is, quite frankly, ruthless. I'll give him this: he acknowledges the role he played in laying the groundwork for the current shit show.

Rick Wilson? He wrote a book called Everything Trump Touches Dies. He has been a never Trumper Republican since the 2016 primaries and he is always pretty direct about his opinions. This, honestly, is nothing new. He has been working to try to bring the GOP back to what it was this whole time and has not been hiding his opinions. In fact, Trump supporters texted death threats to his wife and kid that included his address in them just recently.

Not too far off topic but sometimes I am still amazed that people here will give opinions, be refuted with facts and then say "well, I guess I'll take your word for it but..." without going out and researching themselves.

If you want to pass judgment on Rick Wilson (or anyone) at least take a few minutes to find out who is is and what he does instead of parroting your party's talking points.

Even Donald Trump thinks the people who support him are rubes.

That is why he does not care if he tells the truth about anything.  All his followers just blindly believe everything he says.

That is why he said he could shoot a man in the middle of the street and they would all would still support him.

He is a proven con man and huckster, and those type feed on uneducated rubes.

Hence the reason most American's that voted did not vote for him in the last election.

I think this tactic says a lot about Trump supporters. Democrats could make ads using all the horrible things Foxnews says them but it would not be very effective. Trump supporters are much more sensative and insecure. They are the perfect target for Trumps fear and hate pitch.

Fine, but I hope you acknowledge he is not the only Republican strategist who thinks that way about you.

The Republican base has been played for years now by references to a supposed "liberal elite" who look down on the rest of the nation.
It's a form of identity politics, hoping you vote Repub because of who you ARE, nevermind the deficit and medicare cuts.

That's odd, because the Democrat Party has been leaning heavy on the identity politics, since at least the 1960's.

Both parties have leaned on "identity" politics since the Civil War.   It's nowhere more pronounced than in the history of immigration and civil rights legislation.

The tweets about the Chiefs making the great state of Kansas pround, and the shooting in the police station in Paris, Germany aren't really helping. The fact that they followed that ad is comical.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

Eh.

If a person actually thinks Trump is "the smart one" then they are most likely a stupid person.

Support him all you want, but don't try and claim things that are opposed to reality.

I think it looks bad that these guys were making fun of voters while they're working a supposedly professional job, but that's about as far as my feelings go on the subject.

CNN is a bit of a joke anyway. The way they are treating Bernie is just absurd.

See, you all are using the term in the appropriate way, not the way that the majority of people understand the term. Most people don't think of identity politics in this way because it's not what they have been told it is. It would also force them to admit that it is happening constantly and they have fallen prey to it, which creates dissonance. This is why they create a construct in which their side isn't engaging in it to help alleviate the dissonance.
