Rank our QB (2019)
#41
I chose 16-20. Dalton is middle of the road. He’s better than the Foles/Flacco/Winston/Trubisky/Carr’s of the world, and compares similarly in athletic talent/skill set to Goff and Ryan. While Dalton has some redeeming qualities, he generally wilts under the spotlights, has been a disaster in the Playoffs, and generally seems to need a great supporting cast rather than being able to elevate subpar skill players.

Put another way, Andy’s the QB equivalent to ordering a club sandwich off the lunch menu. Anywhere you go it’ll be on the list, is safe, and generally decent. Rarely is it amazing.
Through 2023

Mike Brown’s Owner/GM record: 32 years  223-303-4  .419 winning pct.
Playoff Record:  5-9, .357 winning pct.
Zac Taylor coaching record, reg. season:  37-44-1. .455 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-2, .714 winning pct.

I voted 16-20.And that is with an above average supporting cast. With a bad supporting cast,27-32,Andy’sDone.Andy rarely can improvise when a play breaks down. For the most part he is not a play maker.

Before looking at the list, I was pretty sure I'd have him in the 16-20 range.

After going through it, I'm closer to the 11-15 slot. There aren't many more than 10 or 12 guys on that list I'd swap for him an feel great about it. That number could go up if guys like Darnold or Murray develop into great players in 2019, but as of now, no.

That said, if this team craps the bed and he doesn't seem to take to the offense, I'm more than ready to move on if we pick top 3. It looks to be a nice quarterback crop in 2020 and you just don't know when you'll get a chance at one again. Andy will have had his chance at that point.

Umm...no. Especially not Ryan.

I sure hope PFF is right.

Dont need a pff subscription to see their 2018 QB rankings. And the only real source you linked that wasnt a blogger is CBS and they had Will Grier on the list in the mid 20s and I doubt Grier even sees snaps behind Cam Newton in 2019.

Also I said PFF 2018 rankings they had Andy at 12 and for the first part of the season he was top 10.

In PFF he scored a 81.9 for 2018 which was 12th...but he was top 10 for a decent chunk of his 2018 starts. Which was better than his 2015 season.
I have the Heart of a Lion! I also have a massive fine and a lifetime ban from the Pittsburgh Zoo...

I'll stand by my vote and say 11-15 with a chance to be top 10.

Nothing wrong with standing by your vote and who knows he might have a chance to be Top 10. He's done it once in his first 8 years.

Sometimes beats NEVER has anyday. NO ONE is automatic. Please name the "automatic" QBs in the NFL ? Dalton lacks "savy" under pressure when the script breaks down. Have you ever seen Dalton pump fake or look defenders out of position to shift the defense. The best QBs have that talent.

Andy, Goff, and Ryan have similar arm strength, similar accuracy, similar size, similar mobility, etc. We’re talking athletic profile. If Ryan doesn’t have Julio he’s pedestrian. Ryan gets love because he plays in a bigger market and was a 1st rounder, but he’s not elite. He’s better overall than Andy, but the gap isn’t all that large. Goff also faded late in the season, and could not elevate backups and role players when some of the starting WR’s/RB’s got hurt. Sound like anyone we know?

Goff and Ryan are both 6’4, to Dalton’s 6’2. I don’t consider that “similar size” those couple inches are a big difference for a QB.

And as far the bold, people say the same about Dalton having AJ.

Yup,

Who knows what new life may come into his game from the almost totally overturned staff ? Could it be nothing ? sure

But it could also make all the difference in the world. I voted 11-15 and I think he will be.

Yes.  I have seen Dalton do that many times.

At this point it looks like 75% have him between 11th and 20th, which is around the middle third of the league.

Then there's the usual 3 people who are drunk on orange juice spiked with a few bottles of Everclear.
