Republicans do not want the country to know what is in their health care bill.

That goes to the replacement part, and what i'm saying.  It's extremely difficult to dismantle a government program once it's in effect.  I wouldn't trust anything that didn't take a year or more to draw up.

They won't be able to provide any alternative policy that will not result in people losing coverage unless they go more progressive with it. The model of the ACA was created by the Heritage Foundation and really is the most conservative policy tool for increasing access to health care via government intervention. They could take ten years, they aren't going to make it happen.

That's the mind boggling part.

They (Republicans) brought the issue up repeatedly, voted again and again to repeal the bill when they knew they didn't have the votes. But at least they had a plan, at least most people thought they had some sort of alternative. After all, that's what they complained about... their (apparently nonexistent) ideas weren't included when given the opportunity. Leap forward to now, they still have no plan.

WTH!?

It's like the people that try out for American Idol, the really horrible ones who can't sing. They talk in the pre-interview about how this is their goal, their big shot, their opportunity to make their dream come true... then they go William Hung. Congress has gone all William Hung. They're getting an opportunity to do what they want, and they're doing a really horrible job.

LOL

That was why I went with Hung. He got paid... much like members of Congress.

Wasn't he the one who got a Vegas contract?

State regulations were the first step.
Fixed pricing is the second step, things like aspirin, bandages and everything else.
Obamacare is only the third step.
Trumpcare will be the fourth step.

The next step will be whoever is in control to bring about Single Payer and everyone will cheer.

I don't know if we'll ever see single payer here. I know that's the magic bullet that seems to make both sides happy — businesses don't have to mess with paying into employee insurance and individuals don't have to jump through hoops — but the cost was higher than military budget level spending.

The only way it would be doable is by telling healthcare providers what to charge, and supply companies what they will take for everything from medicine to machines. And that's a little too socialist for the majority of Americans, I think.

Until everyone realizes everyone's taxes will be raised. Substantially. Now it may not cost Bernies $32 trillion over 10 years, but "make the rich pay their fair share" aint gonna make it.

Please don't correct me when I'm trying to be non-partisan. LOL

My field of study is policy, and so this whole thing just bothers me and gets me fired up.

I don't want Single Payer or anything near it since I see government run healthcare only as a means of absolute control over the populace...eventually.

Healthcare can be tied to everything from how you live, what you eat and if you exercise to what job you have, how much electricity you use and the type of car you drive. Since the government controls your healthcare, they can tell you what to do all in the name of the greater good and to save money which lowers your cost and those around you.

Of course, those with a lot of money can tell the government to shove it and those who make the laws can opt out for the rest of their lives. Seriously, what do the "Regular" people really know? The Catholic Church did it for centuries, Communist countries did it for decades and are still doing it...telling people how to live and think. Hell, this is a made up percentage but at least 95% of the American public are already told how to think and act. The other 4.75% are demonized as whack jobs and that .25% are actual whack jobs.

Don't believe me about being told how to think and act? Just read this board.

Too socialist for companies who care more about how much more money they can make than actually providing for their "customers".

NPR is doing a story this morning on people who live in states that never expanded medicare.  The lady who voted for Trump, who has no insurance (she has a job but it doesn't offer coverage and she can't afford the premiums on other plans) said she wants something better than Obamacare.  Mellow  And she said she doesn't know the details but she wants Trump to "sit down and talk with people smarter" to work out something for everyone.  Mellow

This is almost as bad as people who thought Obama actually gave them phones.
