Sheri Few, who is running for South Carolina’s fifth congressional district, is pinning her campaign on the preservation of Confederate symbolism.

A new campaign advertisement features Few wielding a semi-automatic rifle, while criticizing “weak politicians” in front of an American flag.

The video follows another advertisement from Few, in which she criticizes Republican opponents Tommy Pope and Ralph Norman for voting to remove a Confederate flag from South Carolina statehouse grounds following the murder of nine black parishioners in 2015.

“So then there’s this huge monument to African Americans that is still on the statehouse grounds,” Few said, the Guardian reported.
“And, you know, why hasn’t anyone called for the removal of that?”

Few told the Guardian that if elected, she will focus on “fighting the destruction of every bit of Confederate memorabilia in our country.”

The house has no plans to remove a Confederate monument from its grounds, but Few fears it might.

“If they insist on removing the memorial itself then, yes, it would be appropriate to remove the other one as well,” she told the Guardian.

The most recent poll in the fifth district shows Few in third place, behind Pope and Norman.

Incumbent Mick Mulvaney vacated the fifth district congressional seat when he was chosen to head the Office of Management and Budget in the Trump administration.
