WTF Pennsylvania?
#1
Had to drive from Cincy to the DC area. 55 everywhere but the turnpike where I get to pay about 15 cents a mile for the privelege of driving 70. Then when the toll part is over I have to exit the hwy, drive down a mini Las Vegas strip and then get back on the hwy? WTF is that?

Now for some questions. How far is Gettysburg from the turnpike, and how far is Pittsbugh? On the way back Id like to either stop at Gettysburg or get one of those really big sandwiches with french fries on it.

Tolls are crazy.  That's how our Republican controlled legislature "doesn't raise taxes" they just raise the fees on everything.

Whatever

Have a safe trip.

Went to DC a couple month ago for a day and half while my daughter and wife were at a convention.  Love it there.

Thanks. Not going to get to do any sightseeing. My dad was out here for work and had to have emergency surgery for a dissected aorta last week at a hospital in Fairfax.

What's the name of the place with tgat sandwich with french fries and cole slaw and I believe two kitchen sinks? Begins with a "P" I believe.

Is it wrong that I put Gettysburg and a really big sandwich on equal footing?

Yeah that sounds right.  Any show about big food almost always has them on.

Primanti's has a ton of locations in and around Pittsburgh. There's also some locations in Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and central Pennsylvania. Might want to check the locations against the route your taking to find the closest one.

Since your taking the turnpike I'm assuming you'll eventually get off and get on 70. The one in in Washington,PA is just off of 70 and there's one in Wheeling,WV which I would imagine would be right off of 70 somewhere as opposed to 20 miles deep into some random hick town.

Gettysburg is amazing !
Save it for when you can spend a few days and really soak things in.
The sandwich place is pretty good.
I do not like coleslaw either, but theirs is quite different and adds a great dynamic.

Hope your Dad recovers well.

I think the one in Washington sounds like my best bet.

It's in the lot right next to the Meadows Casino so you'll have no trouble finding it. It's a relatively new building so it's a lot nice inside then some of the others.

I Google mapped it. It's a 10 minute drive off of 70, but it's all highway and literally two turns including pulling into the parking lot.

Whoa!  I hope he is doing well.

The good thing about driving in PA is they post how much the speeding ticket will cost. "Oh, cool. I can afford another 10mph over the limit." Ninja

I am sitting in a hospital bored to death so here is my latest update. More to kill time than to actually inform anyone of anything. I have yet to try the big sandwich. It was midnight when I passed it on my wa home, and 10:00 am when I passed by today on my way back to Fairfax. I am also a little worried about eating that thing still facing a 4 hour drice. The road just isnt straight enough to feel safe grabbing a nap.

There is a town in Pennsylvania that is called Bella somthing. It's on 70 and you cross a decent sized river on 70 as you approach it. I swear that town has a road that is way closer to 90 degrees than it is to 45. I've seen a town somewhere in Penn with an incline, but this was a damn road.

I was feeling a little sluggish so I stopped at a rest stop right after the turnpike. It was awesome. It was a big area with even a wooded area, but best of all was the view. A giant meadow with all kinds of wildflowers and behind that was a high, treed ridge I guess you would call it. Great place to recharge for 20 minutes.
And not far past that rest stop is a really cool valley to your left. You don't have much time to check. it out though.
