Texas Privatized their Power Grid
#21
Apparently, Ted Cruz went on vacation to Cancun while Texas is in a disaster. On one hand, I am not sure there is a ton he can do to help...but man those are some bad optics.

Texas mayor "tells it like it is" and then is forced to resign.

The real story is that Texas is colder than ever!

Liberal media has skewed coverage of this disaster so no one realizes that

GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX!!

Texas would have been prepared if so many had not been swayed by green liberal lies!

The wall served as a wind break and prevented the warm Mexican winds from blowing in.

So this gets even better. First, he flew back, claiming that his trip was simply to escort his fammily: https://abc13.com/ted-cruz-cancun-texas-mexico-weather/10350591/

Then, the texts were revealed: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/18/us/politics/ted-cruz-storm-cancun.html

Tl;dr: he and his family were going to Cancun to escape the situation in Texas. Flat out. The receipts are there.

I wish I was more optimistic about the voters in Texas remembering this.

I posted exactly that:  Ted Cruz took his family to Cancun yesterday...Hope your power comes back on in Texas and when you warm up you remember that little fact.

My day and feed were filled with people defending him.  I should add none of those people are FROM Texas.  They are just Republicans.

Yea, those optics got a hell of a lot worse. Nothing like straight up abandoning your constituents simply because you have the resources to do so. There were rumors that the Democratic party was going to attempt a Georgia-like movement in Texas behind a guy like Beto and you got to wonder if the perfect storm is forming with things like the power grid, Cruz running off, their AG trying that batshit crazy lawsuit. The only issue is it's too early in the cycle that it all probably gets forgotten.

I, unfortunately, watched it and he isn't even talking about Texas and the complete failure there...he is still railing against lockdowns.

It's going to be forgotten because his district likes that he licks Trump's rear and says the things they say in private.

In the video, maybe, but that's not how the tweet reads.

Oh, it's a major shitstorm of epic proportions that is a result of a large number of variables ranging from capitalistic greed to anti-regulatory asshattery with a large dose of "we never thought it would happen, here!" thrown in for good measure.

You got that right. Hard to find info without a political slant one way or the other. As someone who worked in the industry close to 40 years I find it quite interesting.

On a side note my wife has been texting her cousin who lives in Arlington all week. They have been without power since Sunday, lost their water Wed. & finally had to move into the place (Some kind of retirement home) where she works to keep warm. On top of that they have no water there either.

The only reason Texas would turn blue would be changing demographics based on continued immigration.

And I predict it will happen.

Texas is becoming "Silicon Valley South" which has pulled in a lot more liberal thinking people in the last few years. I expect that to continue as well.

As soon as Texas goes blue they'll find a way to either undo the electoral college or find a way to gerrymander 50+ EC votes into Arkansas.

So, the defense of Cruz that I have been seeing is that he isn't the governor, he's a senator, so what is he supposed to be doing? My argument is that legislators in a situation like this should be working with the White House and their state officials to help coordinate aid. What are your thoughts on this argument?
