They should be thinking of IR, not playing him against the Giants.

So if a player clears a properly conducted concussion protocol you don’t think they should be cleared?

Did you read my post? Do you think doctors are perfect and never make a mistake?

I said if he clears protocol I question the doctors opinion who cleared him. I thought we lived in a free country and can for our own opinions, but I guess in your world doctors are always right and Gio won't suffer long term impact from multiple concussions, so just clear him.

Yes.

No.

So this is the crux of the conversation. If Gio clears the return to play protocol (which means he is symptom free and neurocognitive tests have returned to baseline), is cleared by the team physician, and is cleared by an “independent” neurologist; what else must be done to clear Gio to return to play in your opinion. That’s what I want to know. You don’t think he should be cleared in a week despite clearing the protocol. So what else needs to be done in order to clear him to return to play? There’s no reason to get defensive. Just explain the basis for your opinion.

Quote:I thought we lived in a free country

Yes.

Quote:and can for our own opinions,

Sure you can have your own opinion.

The return to play protocol has been developed over decades by an expert panel of international healthcare providers who care for athletes with head injuries including neurologists, neurosurgeons, sports medicine specialists, etc.

So, again, I’d like to know what you think the Concussion in Sports Group needs to add to their consensus statement.

Basically, why does your opinion Trump the standard of care?

Quote:but I guess in your world doctors are always right

No. But, again, the return to play protocol has been developed over decades involving input from thousands of medical experts. This isn’t just the opinion of two doctors in Cincinnati. Why should I listen to your opinion instead of their collective opinions?

Quote:and Gio won't suffer long term impact from multiple concussions,

No. I think even you are aware of the long term risks of multiple concussions. One of the purposes of the return to play protocol is to mitigate the risks of sequelae from multiple concussions

Quote:so just clear him.

Absolutely not. Clear him if he passes a property conducted return to play protocol.

You’re the one who is questioning the doctors for clearing him to return to play if he passes the protocol. So what else needs to be done in addition to the return to play protocol to clear a player since you don’t think it is sufficient.

He has 4 days to get through the protocol. With Mixon on IR a couple of the young 'ens might get a chance. I wouldn't mind seeing what we have in T-Will
If no Bernard or Mixon or Burrow the Bengals are in bad shape against The Giants Sunday.   Bernard concussion leaves Bengals not just weak at Quarterback, but weak at Running Back.  Add in Weak Offensive Line and Weak Defense and the team as a whole is just WEAK.  Randy at kicker very weak lately.

We may see a lot of Perine at RB and WTF at QB...The W standing for Who

The season and any real reason to watch ended last week. I feel bad for some of the guys playing for their next contract. Being on this Bengals team has just got to be a career-killer.

If Gio sits out, so be it, but I won't like it because I have Mixon, Higgins, and Gio on my FFL team. Drafting with my heart once again fails me!

In my leagues Mixon went in round 1 or at least 2.   I wanted Mahomes. Kelce or Hill because Chiefs score points.  I knew Bengals O Line problems and there are so many other great players to take in 1 and 2.  The big rush for RBs as league owners sand bag them is OK by me,  I just take the best QB and WR or TE that I can get while everybody goes RB crazy to start Fantasy Drafts.  Mixon would never be my first round pick or even second round.  People go RB crazy in Fantasy Draft too much.  QB scores the most points and you better get a good one and a WR or TE who is way above the rest.

I have always been a big fan of Gio.  I have defended him many times on these boards.  Plus he is one of the classiest men on the team.  But he is overpaid for what he does and he still has another year on his contract.  We need to see what Williams and Perine can do.

I am a big SEC fan and I was really impressed with Williams.  He is not an amazing juke and shake type of runner who will fake guys out of their shoes, but he is not just a straight ahead runner either.  He has good vision and and can make the cuts to hit the holes.  He has good speed (4.5 forty) and runs very strong for his size.  He is a good receiver and also a good pass blocker.  I was honestly surprised that he lasted to the sixth round.
