The Myth of Sanders' electability
#21
(05-11-2016, 10:03 PM)xxlt Wrote: So Bernie hasn't been attacked, and that makes him unelectable?

Trump calls a woman a pig, calls anyone a loser, calls Cruz a liar... pretty much opens his trap to burp and he gets splashed all over the internet, the TV and radio, and print media.

Hillary awakens and faces another day with a vajayjay, and she gets free internet, TV and radio, and print media. She doesn't get as much as much as Dumb Donald, we will call it 10x10 coverage in a 12x12 room. Dumb Donald gets 144 square feet of free media in a 144 square foot room and Hillary only gets 100 square feet in the same room.

Contrast the round the clock free coverage (tons for DD and almost as much for H-vjj-C) with the media ignoring Sanders. Even when he wins primaries (as he has in 19 states now) or makes a strong showing he is ignored. The press wrote more about Cruz, Bush, Rubio, and the rest of clown car - and they all combined haven't got a fraction of the votes Sanders has.

But the reason he is unelectable since he hasn't been attacked? If there is a reason he can't be elected it is because the media has done everything to make sure his name is never mentioned, and if it is it is in the context of how he can't be elected - how he can't even win nomination over Hillary.

When the Republicans not named DD got 1,000x the free media coverage Bernie got and DD got 10,000 times the free media and Hillary 5,000 times the free media and he is still in the race it can only mean one thing. He is highly electable due to a populist appeal that reaches people w/o the media thrusting him in people's faces around the clock.

the FCC might actually get something done under his administration.

Likely because Crazy Bernie has never done an honest days work, in his lifetime.  Dude is a freakin' hippie loser, and trying to convince everyone that they deserve free shit?  Because he was born into a well off family, and every American deserves the same?  C'mon, that's just stupid.  No wonder it's kids and lazy folk that admire Sanders.

It goes on to list some easy ammunition for a conservative attack:
-relationship with the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party that called with solidarity with Iran during the Iran hostage crisis

-Sanders’ 1985 trip to Nicaragua, where he reportedly joined a Sandinista rally with a crowd chanting, “Here, there, everywhere/ The Yankee will die.”

-Sanders’ youthful sex writings

-Sanders opposition to the Amber Alert legislation

-Sanders opposition to criminalizing computer generated kiddie porn

-Support for a public takeover of TV

-Opposition to private charity because it's the government's job

-Belief that sexual repression causes cancer

-Jane Sanders possibly trying to defraud the Catholic Church and getting a golden parachute when fired from that university job

-Opposition to public schools and support of taking kids out of "establishment" schools

It's an argument you see a lot by his supporters. He does better in polls. It's true, but that's because he has not been attacked the same way that all the other candidates have been.

Outstanding post.  He would get absolutely gutted by Trump, the deluge of attacks would absolutely bury him.  In addition I see Bernie's "free college for all" as the Dem version of "everyone get's $300 if I'm elected".  It's a ham fisted bribe pure and simple.

True.  Additionally it was during W's administration that this interpretation was made.  Hardly a hotbed of left wing thinking.

You're missing the point completely.  No one has given Bernie much of a chance to win, therefore the digging and mudslinging has not begun in anything like the levels it would occur at in the GE.  Both Trump and Hillary have been as high profile as it gets, there's probably something new to discover but not nearly to the degree that there is with Bernie.  As for Trump's boorish behavior, it's the Trump version of  "Only Nixon could go to China".  Don't try and compare him in this way to pretty much any candidate ever because you're wasting your time.  Also, you use of a childish nickname shows you in a rather poor light and betrays a lack of ability to analyze this situation rationally.

Sanders was born and raised in a very low income family with any immigrant father from Poland.
Quote:lthough Eli Sanders’ job as a paint salesman put food on the table for his wife Dorothy and their two boys, the family had to budget meticulously to get through each month. In the book The Jews of Capitol Hill: A Compendium of Jewish Congressional Members, by Kurt Stone, Bernie Sanders is quoted as saying about his childhood: “It’s not that we were poor, but [there was always] the constant pressure of never having enough money. … The money question to me has always been very deep and emotional

As to the whole "free stuff" argument, it's not. It is paid for by the taxes that we pay. I'd much rather my taxes be used for healthcare, education and infrastructure in this country, rather than spending it in countries that our neo-con politicians think need to "fixed" so we can have their oil.

It absolutely is a "free stuff" argument because there's zero chance the government can afford it.  Even with massive tax increases the debt will increase by trillions.  BTW as someone who paid for their college education themselves, do I get free money from Bernie when he gets elected because I actually paid off my student loans?

I understand that line of thinking, but I think it's more an investment into America's Future than a free ride.
Other well established countries already do this, so I don't see it as a big deal. And honestly, the Government could easily afford it. Tell me exactly why we spend sooo much on Military? Wouldn't spending it on People's education actually make us a smarter country able to do more with less because of the innovative minds?

What I do find amusing is that it sounds like you are asking for your free piece of the pie... Sorry we already accepted a different deal, look at it as now you don't have to save that money for your children's education.

Both Trump and Bernie are more deserving to be president than the Hilldabeest, and that's not saying much.

As looney as Bernie is, he is passionate and sincere about improving America and believes deeply that his looney ideas are the way to do it.

Trump is also passionate about "making America great again". He has the mentality of the average Joe having no political experience that thinks he could fix the worlds problems if he were president.
Trump is confident he can make America great like he is confident his haircut looks great.

Hillary is in it for herself.   A panderer who pretends to empathize with the common man.  This self centered lying ***** is only interested in establishing a legacy. Its so glaring.

I get the line of thinking and my comment was more tongue in cheek than anything else.  I would say that paying for certain college majors makes sense.  Paying for some kids liberal arts degree does no one any good.  I picked a major that was transferable to my chosen field and helped me gain employment.  Yes, I get the concept of a higher educated populace raising the standard for all of us.

I think our military spending being at current levels speaks for itself.  I certainly agree that our allies should shoulder more of the burden.  Countries like Russia and China certainly aren't kept from more aggressive action by our highly educated populace.

Again, it was tongue in cheek, but I didn't tacitly accept anything.  I went with the hand that I was dealt.  I don't have children but I've already set aside money for my the education of my nephews.

The problem with Bernie supporters is that, while intelligent, they suspend rational thought and focus on their emotions.

There's no corporate media campaign against him. The two candidates getting the most votes get the most airtime.

Clinton doesn't have to run negative ads cause her PACs do! Ok, but Bernie's PACs could have and spared him from running negative ads. Oh wait, he ran negative ads and lost NY because of it.

At no point did the article say that he is unelectable because he hasn't been attacked. The point of the article is that he has been ignored and that things in his past that could easily have been attacked have not been, so you cannot say he is more electable without having him truly run the gauntlet. Hillary has run the gauntlet and leads Trump. Hillary will not attack him because it will hurt her support in the general. Republicans have not attacked him because he won't be the nominee, so why waste the energy?

On a much smaller scale, this was done repeatedly to an independent candidate during gubernatorial elections here in our state.  Having worked on his campaign one year, I can tell people who say that this does not happen that they're full of shit with the utmost confidence.

I'd like to add that I'd rather our dime go toward that than toward MORE corporate welfare to companies who outsource our jobs, hide profits in offshore accounts, and don't pay taxes while enjoying the fruits of our nation and infrastructure without reinvestment into it.  For example, GEs CEO stresses China to his managers and relocating facilities there to gain "a competitive advantage", yet when GE needed a bailout, was he asking China for help?  No, he wanted the American taxpayer to fund it.  I just don't understand the mentality of people who still buy into this trickle down bullshit.....the greatest farce ever sold to the American public.  For what it's worth, I'm not a Sanders supporter, but at least he is calling out the REAL moochers and leaches.

I don't think free college education is a bad idea...I just think not everyone should go to college.

I knew too many people who put themselves into a lifetime of debt when they would have been much better off learning a trade or just getting a job and working for an education.

The problem is:  Who gets to make that call?

I don't know who would be against reinvesting in our infrastructure HERE vs some country we bombed out.  Or against revising the tax code to have those who pay big bucks to skirt (and fix) the system actually contribute.

In fact they only people I know against these things are the ones who run the student loans or are skirting the tax system.

But the media has people all frothed up about "socialism" when 90% of people couldn't define it if they had to for money.

Another popular Bernie myth.

Hillary does better in open primaries. She has won 12 for 20 (60%) open or semi open staes. She only won 11 of 22 (50%) closed or semi closed states.

not accusing you of lying, but there are so many lies that are rampant among Bernie fans online. Just straight up lies regarding the election.
