Trump Foundation to Dissolve
#1
We've discussed the multitude of problems with this "charitable" foundation over the years.  The latest investigation has led to the voluntary dissolving of the foundation and the distribution of all remaining assets.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/12/18/donald-j-trump-foundation-dissolves/2349167002/

Quote:President Donald Trump's charity will shut down with its remaining assets distributed to other not-for-profit organizations as part of an agreement filed Tuesday by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood.

The stipulation between the Donald J. Trump Foundation and Underwood's office calls for the charity to dissolve under judicial supervision, wiping out its certificate of incorporation and ending its existence.

The agreement was signed Dec. 11 by attorneys for the Trump Foundation and the Attorney General's Office. It is awaiting a state judge's approval.

It comes after Underwood filed a lawsuit against Trump in June, accusing him of illegally using the charity to boost his presidential campaign in 2016.

The lawsuit listed a wide array of alleged law-breaking over more than a decade and asks a judge to force the foundation, Trump and his family to pay $2.8 million in restitution.

The lawsuit took issue with the Trump Foundation's Iowa fundraiser for veterans organizations on Jan. 28, 2016, which came in the days before the Iowa caucuses.

Aug. 24: Trump Foundation: How New York's growing case could impact the president

Underwood claimed the event was largely run by Trump's campaign staff, which directed where the funds went. When Trump issued enlarged checks to the veterans organizations, they had his "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan on the bottom.

New York law prohibits charities from participating in political events.

At the time the lawsuit was announced, Trump called the case "ridiculous" and laid blame with former state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a frequent Trump foe who resigned in disgrace after he was accused of physically abusing multiple women.

Schneiderman was succeeded by Underwood, his former solicitor general.

An attorney for the Trump Foundation could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday morning.

Underwood vowed to continue with the lawsuit despite the charity dissolving.

"We’ll continue to move our suit forward to ensure that the Trump Foundation and its directors are held to account for their clear and repeated violations of state and federal law," she said in a statement.

For curious and "unbiased" among us the GOP is ready to investigate the Clinton Foundation after a whistleblower submitted evidence a year ago.

Decades of investigations, lies and conspiracy theories, many of which while under Republican rule of WH/House/Senate......

And the Clinton Foundations remains running strong.

Trump foundation on the other hand joins Trump University (Trump steaks, Trump vodka, Trump Mortgage) for being corrupt and fraudulent.

All the Clinton conspiracy theories is good troll material, but to find the truth, look no further than what is still going strong vs what continues to get exposed, indicted, imprisoned, and shut down.

Don’t let one corrupt family using their charitable foundation as a slush fund, prevent you from seeing the other one is/was doing the same thing. Waaaay to many coincidences of foreign donations being followed by arms sales and business opportunities with the Clinton Foundation. Probably just another coincidence that all the foreign governments pulled their donations after Hillary lost the election.

For years the Clintons and I’m sure the Trumps, gave charitable donations to their own charities and wrote them off as tax deductions. Another way the rich can game the system.

While I’m on this rant, these aren’t the only two charitable organizations that are just fronts to make people rich. People need to look at a charitie’s finances before they start giving them money.

I'm sure if any of that was true Republicans while in charge over the last 40 years would have got them for it. It only took 2 years to catch Trump.

Republicans and their supporters hate Clinton. I don't get why you guys think they covered for them all these years after thousands of investigations. If there as anything there, they would have nailed them for it.

Because if they got in trouble for how they used the foundation, a whoooole bunch of other Uber rich and elite would get in trouble too. You’ll notice nobody is getting in trouble for the Trump foundation (yet), they just have to dissolve it. Then they’ll start a new foundation with a different name and start the scam all over again.

The Trumps aren’t your friends and the Clintons aren’t your friends. They want money and power and will step on you to get it.

Turns out it was all a politically motivated witch hunt, none of the accusations were true and Trump was completely exonerated.

Oh wait, no that's a complete lie.  Sorry.

Quote:The Donald J Trump Foundation closed down in 2018, after prosecutors accused it of working as "little more than a chequebook" for Mr Trump's interests.
Charities such as the one Mr Trump and his three eldest children headed cannot engage in politics, the judge ruled.

She said the money must be paid by Mr Trump himself.

"I direct Mr Trump to pay the $2,000,000, which would have gone to the Foundation if it were still in existence," wrote Judge Saliann Scarpulla.

She said the money should go to eight charities Mr Trump has no relationship to.

Mr Trump "breached his fiduciary duty" by allowing funds raised for US veterans to be used for the Iowa primary election in 2016, she said in the settlement.

Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump - who were also directors of the Trump Foundation - are required to undergo mandatory training "on the duties of officers and directors of charities", New York Attorney General Letitia James said.

The payment is the final resolution of a case brought by state prosecutors.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/potus-to-pay-2-million-admits-misuse-of-trump-foundation-funds-in-settlement-with-ny-ag

Quote:The New York Attorney General's office announced Thursday that a judge has ordered President Trump to pay $2 million in damages for improper use of funds at the Trump Foundation in connection with the 2016 presidential primaries and his own political purposes, as part of a lawsuit Trump and the foundation settled with state Attorney General Letitia James.

James' office had requested $2.8 million in restitution and a $5.6 million penalty, but Judge Saliann Scarpulla decided $2 million was a more reasonable restitution amount and declined to issue a penalty.

As part of the settlement, Trump admitted to misusing Trump Foundation funds and agreed to limitations placed on future charitable work. If he chooses to start a new charitable organization, he would have to report it to the state attorney general's office, according to an announcement from James' office.

TRUMP FOUNDATION AGREES TO DISSOLVE AFTER LAWSUIT ALLEGED 'ILLEGAL CONDUCT'

"The Trump Foundation has shut down, funds that were illegally misused are being restored, the president will be subject to ongoing supervision by my office, and the Trump children had to undergo compulsory training to ensure this type of illegal activity never takes place again,” Attorney General Letitia James said in statement.
“The court’s decision, together with the settlements we negotiated, are a major victory in our efforts to protect charitable assets and hold accountable those who would abuse charities for personal gain."

But Trump himself released a statement on Twitter on Thursday night saying James is “deliberately mischaracterizing this settlement for political purposes."

The state filed the lawsuit against the Trump Foundation in June 2018, and the settlement includes four stipulation agreements, the first of which was fulfilled when the Trump Foundation agreed to shut down in Dec. 2018. The other three stipulations were added in Oct. 2019. They include distribution of the remainder of the foundation's assets to charities approved by James' office, training for the president's children Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr., and 19 paragraphs of Trump's admissions of illegal activity.

Those admissions include failure of the foundation's board to meet or engage in proper oversight, and details regarding coordination with Trump's 2016 campaign, including a Trump Foundation fundraiser that the campaign organized, and use of foundation funds to pay legal obligations, and for a $10,000 portrait of Trump. As part of the settlement, James' office said, Donald Trump Jr. reimbursed the foundation for the portrait.

The Attorney General's office stated that the $2 million in damages and the remaining $1.78 million that the foundation has will go to Army Emergency Relief, the Children’s Aid Society, Citymeals-on-Wheels, Give an Hour, Martha’s Table, United Negro College Fund, United Way of National Capital Area, and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In a statement, a Trump Foundation spokesperson said the foundation was "pleased to donate an additional $2 million" to those organizations.

"Following the 2016 presidential election, the Trump Foundation publicly announced its intention to voluntarily dissolve and distribute all of its remaining funds to charity," the statement said.

It continued: "Unfortunately, that donation was delayed due to the Attorney General’s politically motivated lawsuit.  We are pleased that the Court, in rejecting the Attorney General’s frivolous request for statutory penalties, interest and other damages, recognized that every penny ever raised by the Trump Foundation has gone to help those most in need. Now that this matter is concluded, the Trump Foundation is proud to make this additional contribution."

I heard a story on (local) radio this morning that said the lower payout was contingent on Trump admitting guilt.

I wonder if his "statement" about doing nothing wrong can come back and bite him even if the case is closed?

Not really.

Many donations that people want to point to were made before Hillary was Sec of State and had any influence.

Then you look at the actual deals and Hillary was not the one with control over them.

Just a quick comment on the Clinton foundation:

1. It consistently received the highest ratings by outside assessors like Charitywatch, the Better Business Bureau, and Charity Navigator. e.g., https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=16680. The latter report give it the highest possible rating for budget transparency. No surprise, since they were constantly hammered by "investigations."

Charity navigator issued a "high concern" advisory for the Trump Foundation.
https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=16764

2. While it is still not clear what bona fide charities the Trump Foundation helped, besides Trump family and properties, The Clinton Foundation actually did/does a massive amount of charity work around the world, especially, for example, distributing AIDs medicine to "shithole" countries (to something like 11.5 million people).  Some 83% of its 200+million annual budget spent on actual help for farmers, students, opiod victims, etc.

So if you want to buy Clinton influence, you have to help other people around the world. The Clinton's created a "tax break/shelter" that helped people in 70 countries.

I've been eyeing that Trump/Pence wrapping paper, but for $30 I wasn't willing to pull the trigger. This sale is a game changer.

JK, it's only 6 feet of wrapping paper, huge rip off. I'll get the two packs of playing cards for $25 instead.
