I was thinking about this yesterday, we get upset that the Russians are helping Assad keep control through military assistance, but not long ago we were mad the Russians were arming and helping the "rebels" in the Ukraine (possibly even involved in operations). Inversely we wanted to keep the established government in the Ukraine intact (Helps our interests) and arm rebels and assist in operation in Syria to remove a regime (helps our interest). I get the Assad regime is really a blight to the area, but it still is interesting that we try to drive world politics, yet get upset when others do the same.
