That’s the entire point!
Right now the drug companies are dictating the prices. That’s why they are so high. Medicare is probably the largest insurance group out there and if they were allowed to negotiate their own prices like private insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield of course they would have the negotiating leverage to dictate prices to the drug companies.
Whoever has the greatest leverage during negotiations gets to dictate the terms. That’s Negotiating 101.
But, heaven forbid we actually implement a plan that reduces drug prices for the patients and saves tax payers money. The republicans call this a socialist take over of Medicare. MEDICARE IS SOCIALIZED MEDICINE, DUMBASSES! You can’t have a socialist take over of socialized medicine. Allowing Medicare to negotiate their own prices isn’t socialism, it’s capitalism.
Apparently, republicans would rather patients and tax payers pay exorbitant prices rather than implement a plan that would reduce those prices if a Democrat would get the credit.
Quote: The White House official objected that Pelosi’s bill is essentially structured to give Medicare the power to dictate prices, and pointed to its lack of Republican support.
