I will happily eat my serving of crow for what I've previously said about not spending or being in win now mode. They certainly have stepped up and made efforts to improve. There's no way anyone can say they're cheap this season. They really seem to be going for it.

THE Jason Peters from the Eagles? When he’s healthy he can wreck defensive players. He’s old — 38 — but he’s an earth mover. If Jonah Williams isn’t healthy Jason Peters is a serious upgrade over Cordy Glenn. This guy plays mean. When a defensive player tried to take Nick Foles’ head off, Peters absolutely beat him senseless.

Same man, what is even better is Peters said he will play RT if asked too and is ten times better than Glenn in run blocking.

Would be a great pick up for a 2 year deal to tutor up Fred Johnson and possibly another pick or two.

I’ll never thank Marvin Lewis enough for bringing the Bengals out of the NFL basement. That man did more with less talent than anyone I’ve ever seen but he got overconfident. Marvin truly believed he could “coach up” Nick Vigil into the next Ray Lewis but that’s not possible. Marvin was in over his head but I’ll love that guy forever for bringing respectability back to Cincinnati. He was too conservative on the field and in free agency too — but Marvin made some great draft picks.

Mike Zimmer is happy where he is and I’m happy he got his shot to be a head coach because no one deserved it more. I’m sure he’s looking at Zac Taylor and thinking someone finally talked some sense into Mike Brown.

Same here. This crow I’m eating tastes horrible but I’m going to eat it with a smile on my face. I’m so excited I’m drinking beer and reheating carb-heavy mashed potatoes to make myself tired enough to sleep.

I’m half smashed by this point but I want people to understand this takes SO much pressure off the Draft. Now the Bengals have the luxury of drafting the best player available, not just filling glaring needs with rookies in hope things will work out.

Read a good article on The Draft Network earlier talking about that. Here's a few of their takeaways:

I’ve been wondering about the same thing. Maybe it wasn’t Mike, maybe it was Marvin. Or has Mike finally ceded the decision making to Katie and company and their taking a different approach. We’ll probably never know for sure.

But, good job. I knew they could do it despite all the Baghdad Bob propaganda.

I've also been thinking about these signings and what would've happened with Marvin. I believe it was a combo of Mike and Marvin when it came to free agency. 

We all know about Mike and the way he liked to run the team. It was always "draft, develop, retain" and beaten into us every offseason. He enjoys operating under old school methods and doesn't really like to change. I wouldn't be surprised if he said that there was a limit to free agency. I could see him telling Duke and Marvin to wait a week to let things calm down and then go out and get the reasonably priced free agents.

As for Marvin, he was a conservative old school coach. For being considered a LB guru, Marvin just refused to adapt to the new athletic LBs that were taking over the league. He was always hard nosed for downhill thumpers, who pretty much sucked in coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if Marvin preferred to wait in FA because he didn't want the team to shell out big bucks. Remember the offseason entering 2015? Marvin told us that they needed to fix our how they looked at FA? How'd that work out? We brought in Nick Fairley and stopped talks with him when Michael Johnson got released. That was it. 

Now to be fair, Mike has basically handed over day to day duties to Katie, Troy, and Duke. This comes at a time when we happened to hire Zac. Now, I'm not expecting an offseason like this every year, but it'd be nice to see us at least talk to one Tier 1/Tier 2 FA every year.
