Browns investigated for tanking
#1
NFL is investigating the Browns for possibly tanking the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

What did they do? Replace a competent starting QB with Ryan Finley?

If they did, it kind of backfired on them. Baker Mayfield wasn't so much of a prize.

Not sure that's ever going to go anywhere. The Browns only won more than 5 games 2 times in the 10 years before Hue Jackson became HC.

I recall Hue going on his throwing everyone under the bus tour after the Browns fired him.  For example:
https://dawgpounddaily.com/2018/11/02/cleveland-browns-hue-jackson-throws-baker-mayfield-under-bus/

Odd he never mentioned purposely tanking back then while he was blaming everyone else. It seems after being fired it would have been a great time to bring that up.  Now recently he claimed they were tanking then apparently retracted those claims.

Quote:In response to a tweet about being paid to tank, Jackson said, “Well, Jimmy Haslam, was happy while we kept losing.” When a Browns fan insinuated Cleveland’s ownership wasn’t paying $100,000 per loss, Jackson responded, “Trust me it was a good number!”

The Browns called the allegations “fabricated” and Jackson later retracted those claims.

The Browns just sucked, their coaching staff was bad and given Hue's statements placed and at times retracted I doubt his integrity.   Given his statements after his firing and recent statements I think he just does not want to take responsibility for coaching the worst back to back seasons in NFL history.    That said if he was indeed paid to have terrible seasons I hope the Browns are exposed and penalized but the coaches that accepted those payments are not innocent either.

Also why are the Colts also not being investigated for tanking to get Andrew Luck?   I think it was well known that "Suck for Luck" was a thing.  Oh wait, that was before the NFL got involved in and started earning a lot of money from gambling deals. Hmm..

Hue has been so back and forth on this already....   He needs attention right now it seems

Honestly the 1st Overall QBs have been pretty brutal lately. Bengals really lucked out with Burrow.

Trevor Lawrence
Joe Burrow
Kyler Murray
Baker Mayfield
Jared Goff
Jameis Winston

Beat me to it

I did a thread awhile back and I forget exactly but the Browns have only won more than 6 games like 3 or 4 times since they came back in 1999. Something like that ?

o they've tanked like 85% of all their seasons, lol.

Since 1999 when they were a team again:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Cleveland_Browns_seasons

1999 2-14
2000 3-13
2001 7-9
2002 9-7 (made the playoffs lost Wild Card to the Steelers)
2003 5-11
2004 4-12
2005 6-10
2006 4-12
2007 10-6
2008 4-12
2009 5-11
2010 5-11
2011 4-12
2012 5-11
2013 4-12
2014 7-9
2015 3-13
2016 1-15
2017 0-16
2018 7-8
2019 6-10
2020 11-5 (won wild card against Steelers, lost divisional to Cheifs)
2021 8-9

So the Browns have had 3 winning seasons since they were a team again in 1999

Hmmmm.. Hue's comments on the matter..
Quote:"Two years ago I tried to do this the right way, through the bylaws and constitution of the National Football League, to ask them to investigate the Cleveland Browns for all the allegations that I've made. So why open an investigation now?"
He claims to have evidence to back up his claims, but it's my opinion that even if he's proven to be completely true and honest the league has no interest in actually pursuing it to upset the Watson apple cart money train..

Right

Just like there's going to be no real investigation into Brady and whatever was going on with Miami.
