Would you do this deal...
#1
I recently saw something on Twitter that I'd like to share...

Quote:Trading Sheldon Richardson to the #Bengals with AJ McCarron coming back in a certain package to the #Jets has some legs to it. #Jetup #NYJ

@DavidWyattNFL

Don't know if this is correct or whatever or is even true...

But would you do a deal consisting of Sheldon Richardson and a 7th Round Pick for McCarron?

Richardson is a 3-4 DE. He seems a little too big to be a 4-3 DE. He'd have to move inside I'd think. But as an interior pass rush specialist, that'd probably work at minimum.

But here's a problem...he counts $8 million toward the cap and is a FA after this season. McCarron doesn't even cost $1 million and should be a RFA after this season, which could mean still under control for 2018 too.

As much as I think Richardson would improve the team more than McCarron, I don't see it happening primarily due to finances.

I wouldn't. And I doubt the Bengals would because:

1 ) He's a free agent after this season.
2 ) He has an $8 million cap hit for this season.
3 ) He only had 1.5 sacks last season. His 2nd year in the league he had 8. His last 2 years haven't been that great.
4 ) Off-the-field issues

If the Bengals trade AJ, it will be for a draft pick as they can sign that pick cheap for 4-5 years.

Perhaps LaFell can coax Jabaal Sheard to come to Cincy? He's a FA, they played together in NE, he's only had less than 5.0 sacks once in his career, will only be 28 years old by the start of the season, and seems like a forgotten DE so might come at a good price. He's also near identical size to Wallace Gilberry and Solomon Thomas (6'3", 265 lb).

How about a 4th round comp for Jason Kelce?

I think it's an interesting idea. He is similar to Jonathan Allen in that he is kind of on the big side and can kick inside and outside. I think he plays outside on base formation and kicks into DT next to Geno on pass rushing downs. Obviously he has some baggage, but if he didn't this deal probably isn't even possible so you have to weigh all things. It would open the 9th pick, but I think the cap number is a bit concerning because what that means to the total amount spent on the D line.

I'm not doing this deal unless he signs a contract extension. After the likely loss of the big three, next year doesn't look too promising. I'm not trading McCarron for a 1 year player, give me a 2nd rounder so at least I get 4-5 years out of him...

Bengals are going to be a losing team in 2017, and Richardson is a FA after this year, and the Bengals can't even sign their current FAs.

So probably not. Would prefer the draft pick(s). If the Bengals weren't going to be a dumpster fire in 2017, it would be a good trade.

He played lb a lot this year which is the reason for the horrible sack line.

No. Richardson only has a year left on his contract. Which means we would have him for one year.

And it's going to get worse. How are we supposed to keep people like Eifert when we have no O line?  Isn't this the last year of his contract?  He'll probably walk like everyone else. No good players will come here. No good players will stay.

I didn't want lafell back, but if he's good for anything he should try to do this. Id be for this, so we don't have to address Solomon Thomas or allen.go get Reuben Foster or trade back and get more picks.

Pass.

The last thing we need is another free agent at the end of this season leaving us with nothing but a compensatory pick. And with MJ, Dunlap and Atkins signed for at least 2 more years (and you know we won't release Michael Johnson, even though we probably should), no way do we sign a 4th defensive lineman to a premium free agency level contract.

No, we need a rookie Dlineman who can come in and be cheap for 4 years, giving us time to re-sign Dunlap and Atkins and then, once Michael Johnson is gone, look to extending the rookie if he deserves it.

Just give me a draft pick or 2. I wouldn't really want to take any player for player deals.

well the scenario was mccarron for richardson and their second round pick. I would do it. No question. U get a great de to go with dunlap and atkins, and a second round pick. Could go rg and center in second round with this scenario and have a great oline  a while.

correct. we cannot sign Richardson because that will hurt our roll over money and deplete rookie and injury pool.

you are dead on with this point and not signing Richardson

signing Richardson is a complete waste of McCarron.

We wont sign Richardson beaccuse we need to roll over money

signing an above average WR for $5 million while failing to deal with Whit and Z before this year is typical cheap ass stupid Bengal management thinking.

who cares who is playing WR when your QB has less than 2 second to throw

why wasn't the $5 million we spent on LaFell used to extend Whit and Z long before FA opened in 2017

Oh I forgot, we don't value guards even though we waste a first round pick on a guy who developed and became a top player at his position.

Plus we need roll over money to sign  guys who wont stay with Bengals in any case

This whole thing really started crashing after our playoff debacle loss to Pittsburgh and Marv not fired the next day.
