Sure, people complain about public education but usually the answer is things like school choice/vouchers among many others. While you could argue that's an indirect way to "end public education", I still don't think it's on par with people calling for the abolition of law enforcement funding.

Maybe some of those opinions stem from stuff like this?

As far as the brainwashing, it's pretty well known that academia is very liberal and there are plenty of tweets and videos showing profs pushing a liberal political agenda.

I'm talking more about the propaganda against teachers.  That's been a noteworthy talking point of the neo-cons for about a decade by my count.  I'll admit some of the more vocal "haters of all things liberal" have been voicing what seem to be some very spoon-fed whining points about the situation.

I'm not comparing it to anything, I'm just saying there is long-term undermining of public education going on.

Thanks for helping my point along.

By the way, nothing is stopping republicans from becoming educators.

I disagree. Yes, when it comes to secondary education, there's been many a talking point about liberalism running rampant on campus, but when I think public education, I think primary education (K-12). And I don't see the same type of talking points about public education being liberal or any of those other things. Heck, I've heard more people say teachers are UNDERpaid than overpaid.

No it is not.

It includes law enforcement to address criminal behavior.

https://www.startribune.com/minneapolis-city-council-votes-unanimously-for-proposal-that-could-replace-police-department/571504662/

Less than three weeks after they promised to begin work on ]ending” the Minneapolis Police Department, some City Council members pushed forward a new vision for law enforcement Friday that would still include officers on the streets.

The council voted unanimously to advance a proposal that would create a new Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention. Within that, the city could create a division that includes “licensed peace officers,”

You are welcome for the education

Licensed peace officers does not mean law enforcement.  There are numerous sworn peace officers that are not LEO's.

I'll keep waiting for that education though, I'm sure it'll be entertaining at the very least.

Hey, as a schlub who is married to a public education teacher I hope I'm wrong as hell on this one.

My wife is getting her degree so she can become a public education teacher. Give me 3 more years and I'll let you know.  ThumbsUp

Public education is socialism.

How do you handle being married to someone who is so ultra liberal and brainwashed?

I think you mean POST-secondary education. Primary is K-5 (or up to K-8 depending on the area) and secondary is 9-12 (or as wide a range as 6-12 depending on the area). Ninja

She's just started her 2nd year of education. She's not quite brainwashed yet. Mellow

You can't get your degree until you swear allegiance to Karl Marx.

Getting to decide which school your child goes to equals getting rid of public education?  Nervous

If you're funneling public funds to private schools so people like Betsy DeVos can profit, yes.

Luckily I got mine prior to that requirement.

You think that poorly of our public education system and so highly of private schools that you think giving people a choice means that they will ALL choose the far superior private schools?
