RE: Baltimore Game Ball - masterpanthera_t - 09-27-2015

I voted for Green, but I could be persuaded to vote for Dandy Andy.

RE: Baltimore Game Ball - BritishBengal - 09-27-2015

Had to give it to Green. Had a quiet start to the season and was facing his longest non-100 yard receiving drought. SMASHED it today. That being said, Dalton had a fantastic game and is having a stellar start to the year.

RE: Baltimore Game Ball - RoyleRedlegs - 09-27-2015

1. Andy gets it from me.
2. Everyone points to the INT (bad throw) and the fumble, but we forgetting AJ's near pick six drop we got lucky Baltimore didn't hang on to?
3. The call of no TD on Eifert was bogus. He caught, took 3 steps. Made a football move. That's not the same as losing it before making a move.

Yeah, if he had already established possession of the ball.

RE: Baltimore Game Ball - Stormborn - 09-27-2015

Thing is if that play ends at the pylon on the corner and the ball crosses the plane, and he loses possession after the ball crosses, it's a TD.

Huge inconsistency in a dumb rule.

He did. That's the problem with the rule. Ball was secured. He turned. Reached out. Then it came out. He wasn't mid air.

If it's at the 50, that is a fumble. It's why the rule is bullshit

It just seems so vague that officials can do whatever they want with the play.  What about making a football move and breaking the plane?  when he extended the ball, he was no longer a receiver.  He was a runner.  When the runner breaks the plane, TD.

And that is the point of the rule.  If it's secured, it won't come out.

Well, without A.J., Andy would have had only 136 yards, and the Bengals would have lost by 10 points, if this is the line of thinking that we're going with.

Don't you think that's kinda weak comparing a drop and almost interception vs an actual interception ( in the red zone) and actual fumble? Dalton played a hell of a ball game and deserves a game ball too, but that's a weak excuse.

It would have been ruled incomplete at the 50 as well.  If you don't take it through to the ground, it's not a catch.

Doesn't take Encyclopedia Brown to solve the case.

So you're saying that he ALMOST made a costly mistake, rather than he DID make two costly ones?

Right. This should've never happened after the Dez incident anyways.

Nothing that happened makes that an incomplete pass.

RE: Baltimore Game Ball - EatonFan - 09-27-2015

Dalton. Except two throws he was on target and IN STRIDE which makes a huge difference for YAC which is what Green did today.

On the 80 yarder if Dalton's throw isn't right in stride Green gets tackled. Could have been a different game. The other Dalton-Green TD was perfect timing and a perfect throw. Laid it in exactly where it needed to be. Dalton ran for a TD with pure grit. On Jones' TD he laid it perfectly in stride and right in the bread basket.

RE the fumble:
That is why it's a stupid rule. It's vague. It has no real meaning. It can be applied at any given point in time in any way.

As to the AJ play:
Just saying people don't give a shit that AJ made bad plays. They give a shit that Andy made bad plays.
Basing it on the luck of Baltimore being able to finish the play is silly.

And it's not like he dropped it. It was kicked out of his hands well after it crossed the goal line. That was the NFL trying to keep the game close for TV.

Meh...I give a shit that the entire team and coaching staff made costly mistakes that allowed an inferior team to hang around and make it a game.  It's not an Andy Dalton thing.  It's a "he made two huge mistakes, and Green made some almost-mistakes" thing.
