Jake, you know he doesnt even want to play LB right?  Giants insider thinks he will want too much for them to re-sign him.

Guy has had an odd journey from being the #8 pick in the draft.

I'm not sure you're getting that Pratt and Wilson will get >80% of the LB snaps, so even if the Bengals were to somehow sign Simmons for some cheap deal, he'd hardly play.

Also, he didn't play so bad to warrant a vet minimum deal.
I think someone will give him $4+ mill APY to either play full-time LB or a hybrid role.

RE: LBs in 2023 - Joelist - 01-20-2024

They will either bet on Battle being able to take over the communications successfully or they will bring in a savvy vet to do it. Most of the defensive issues came from poor communication resulting in the secondary (in particular) being out of position.

He played 33% of the snaps last season as a role player. Have no idea were spotrac would have him getting that big of deal. If he would get that big of a deal then I would pass on signing him.

He would play third downs and known passing situations. Also he would give the Bengals another option to cover TEs in which the Bengals were dead last in.

Yeah he is a saftiey/LB hybrid. He will play on third downs and man up TEs. Whatever position he plays he would be asked to do the same thing.

I don't understand how this is such a controversial take Isiah is a unique player who Lou can use in multiple ways. If the deal is right why wouldn't you want him. Some of you are being weird about this shit!

So on defense where do you rank most needed improvementor replacement by position, here is mine, I put LB as last

DT
SAFETY
CB
LB

We were 31st in defense and gave up the most yards per a play. None of the positions should be untouchable.

For sake of argument
3T- Hill only had 2 TFLs last season
NT- Reader is hurt and a free agent
FS- not sure if Hill is free safety or not.
LB- both LBers had a bad season and 3 LBers are free agents
CB- I actually like our Trio there and young. Depth is always a need there.

Never said untouchable I just don't see LB as a high priority in FA and gut is either do Bengals organization,  now drafting one yes possible 4-6 round

I agree we're going to draft one late in the draft!

It's controversial because some of us don't think it's realistic that 1) he's brought in for the price you think, and/or 2) that the Bengals would essentially demote Pratt to be a 2-down LB after signing him to his new deal last year. He wants to be a 3-down LB and I expect he'll get more opportunities to do it this year.

I haven't followed this guy's career since that draft. Prior to that draft it seemed he was highly regarded by a lot of people as the best player coming out. Since the draft, you never heard anything about this guy...

My prediction is no way he gets that deal and giants will offer 2 year for 14 to 16 million

In depth article on him, seems he has been productive with snap counts, I don't think arizona did him any favors..

I read a bit more On Simmons and see what u are saying but unless bengals saw him as SS and were moving Hill to CB , I don't see a fit with bengals with contracts of Wilson and pratt, plus Simmons probably looking for more $$, I think giants resign him

How is not realistic to sign him to a cheap deal? You act like Lou wouldn't like to use a scheme versatile player who could man up TEs!

As for Pratt who cares if he's moved back to a 2 down player? His play proved he isn't a 3down guy!

Why do you think he would sign a cheap deal? I don't understand why you think it is possible.

He's 25 and a UFA. He's probably looking for one last big contract.

According to this site he isn't going to sign a cheap deal: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-giants/isaiah-simmons-47601/market-value/

He played 33% of the snaps last season for the giants and the Cardinals only asked for a 7th rd pick for him last season. He's not getting a big deal this upcoming offseason.

What kind of cheap deal do you think he's getting?

1 year deal worth anything  from 3.5 million to 5 million.

He's not a traditional LB nor a traditional S. So it will take a creative D coordinator to use him properly. Which is right up Lou's  alley!
