They are anti fascists but there is more to the story. It goes back to the reds fighting back versus the brown shorts in Germany. Reds being the communists. They were an outlet of the soviets spreading communism.

In the end the Germans sided with the brown shirts because they knew communism was a disaster.

There is a reason when you see any antifa video they are flying the Soviet flag, and calling each other comrade.

I don't think Nazism — or socialism in general — was the way to go, either.

Well the Communists were our allies to fight the Nazis once...I'm okay with it again.

Note: Not an endorsement of communism, rather an endorsement of being anti-Nazi.

Agreed. and the Germans voted for nationalism. Nazism came after they gave away their power to Hitler .

Seems like a good lesson to not give away powers here to our executive branch. Too bad it's been going on for over 100 years.

And Hitler/Nazis was the better option?

I haven't watched any "antifa" videos period let a lone with soviet flags.  Yet I would consider myself anti-fascists and I would hope that you would be as well.  Because being anti-fascists does not mean that you are suddenly communist. Which is what you appear to be hinting at.

You are ok with communists running around and getting violent with anyone who is not communist. Is this all ok if sometimes they get violent with a white supremecist?

Antifa gets violent against everyone . Not just "Nazi's"

Just like in Germany they are here to spread communism and take on anyone who isn't a communist.

I honestly don't know if the counterprotesters in Charlottesville were antifa, though it wouldn't surprise me if SOME of them were. But antifa has really taken off since Trump's election. What's humurous to me is that what I've seen from supposed antifa groups is how very facist-like they act and sound.

I am anti fascist, anti communist, anti leftist, anti establishment, I just want the government out of our lives.

But just because I am against white supremecists doesn't mean I am ok with violence by communists or any other group. Also I would not be In. Favor of white supremecists breaking up a communist rally.

Fact is if they have a permit they should be allowed to peacefully protest. Ignoring them has has always seemed to work .

Exactly. This is a big problem. Antifa grew from. The occupy Wall Street group.

I don't think it's an executive branch issue, it's more of a one party issue.

When you get down to it, there's not a whole lot of difference in Democrats and Republicans. One favors one group or two over another, and directs tax dollars to a special interest over another, but at the end of the day, neither one is providing much different than the other guy. Regardless of midterms or the next federal election, you can pretty well bet that unless you are one of a handful of folks that: your taxes are going up (either actual rate, assessment value or other), services/effectiveness of government offered will go down and your cost of living is going to increase, likely without an increase in income. It's been that way since the 70s. The executive branch hasn't helped, no, but it extends way beyond, largely to people who aren't even elected.

This whole "antifa" thing (I guess it's a "thing" now) is new to me.  In the past I would assume most people were naturally anti-fascists given it's history and the country we live in.  Unless of course racism and genocide appeal to you.

Not a big difference between establishment dems and GOP. Which is why we need them to break off and form their own deal.

Then we can have the socialists/communists, establishment, and conservatives.

The antifa thing IS new, basically. This is something they've taken to calling themselves. It's just funny because they say they're anti-facist but then they shout down, sometimes violently so, opposing thoughts and ideas and do other facist-like things.

I'm still not sure what this whole "antifa" thing is about, but it doesn't sound like anything I'd be for.  However I am anti-fascist and anti-communist.  Though I'm not quite certain what you mean by anti-leftist?  Because in a broad generality some would interpret that as communist.  However in American Politics we get a little carried away with some of these labels.  Many on the right consider those on left as communist and many on left consider those on the right as fascist...it's really just rhetoric. Neither one is really communist or fascist.  It's brought up mainly to stir emotions.

Be careful and don't step in the bullshit.

I am pro liberal. A true classic liberal is reasonable, respects privacy, and is actually pretty small government. The big spending liberal is a misnomer...... its this bastardized modern version of liberal that has made them basically socialists.

And antifa traces back to the RFB in Germany. Who were the enforcers for the communist party of Germany. Antifa has basically taken over as the enforcers for the democrat party.

So a group calling themselves "antifa" shouting down racists assholes (who are probably shouting as well) are doing "fascist like things"?

My Grandfather, and great uncles fought an entire war (violently) against fascist and people consider them heroes.

This whole argument that anti-fascist are doing fascist like things because they disagree with fascist is one of the most ridiculous arguments I think I've heard of.

I was going to mention this before Dino posted it, but I will say that I personally know clergy that were defended by antifa folks. These clergy very much disagree with them, but they were defended from unprovoked attacks by the racist shitstains. Broad brushes don't work.

Classical liberalism is something that contemporary liberalism, conservatism, and libertarianism all fit into. Trying to compare classical liberalism with the contemporary liberalism we see in modern day society is not a valid comparison. Especially when you refer to them as "basically socialists," which is extremely false and comes from a position of ignorance regarding what socialism actually is.

Yes. Facism does not allow the freedom of speech. There's a difference between having a differing opinion and not even being allowed to state one's opinion.

With that said, antifa hasn't always been shouting down racist assholes. And many times it's more violent than just shouting.

Probably because that's not what I said. They aren't just disagreeing with them. They're doing all they can to keep opinions and ideas they don't like from being heard. They use violence and force in order to achieve their goals. For example, they will riot and protest violentallly to the point that events featuring conservative speakers are shut down.

But, hey, who cares what they DO, it's only what they claim to be that matters, right?
