Police legal question here - RICHMONDBENGAL_07 - 10-13-2017

Ok I just happened to be watching Reservoir Dogs, and was watching the scene where Mr. White kills the two cops that arrive in the cruiser, while Mr. Orange watches in horror (he's undercover). He clearly could have done something but doesn't. I'm curious if it is just a flaw in the movie (which I think it is)? Or are there really no limits an "undercover" cop has to do to keep his cover? I'm not an LEO, but I did serve in the military and I'm sure in our various secret services if you are caught you very well be "on your own". Just curious if undercover officers are in the same boat. Every ones input is welcome. However I would look forward any that are actually involved in law enforcement. And the only one that I know of, is SSF.

Btw I wasn't sure which forum to post this in but I chose this one because I thought it had the potential to get political.
